KC Crazy 2015 Theater Crawl

The KC Crazies are putting on a home theater crawl. Here are the details.

Have you ever wondered if a JTR Orbit Shifter LFU is all that? Or maybe eight 18'' drivers in the same room? Maybe you have always wanted to listen to a pair of JTR 215's. Or Martin Logans if that is your thing. How about seeing a purpose built theater with sound isolation. Or stepping into a space that has been professionally calibrated with Procella speakers and Quest treatments EQ'd with Trinnov gear. Or maybe you are curious about JVC projectors and an EN4K screen. !!!!24inch subwoofer!!!! Should you purchase that Panny 8000 or the Crowson Transducers? Darby anyone? Maybe you want to meet the guy who put dual Gjallarhorn's in his ceiling? Well, it is all here and more.

We have never done a theater crawl in KC so it is about time. Bear with us as the attendance grows and plans need to evolve.

April 25 Saturday

0930-1100

Group A jedimastergrant

Group B carp

1100-1145

Group A and B lunch at jedimastergrant. $10. Group B drives to jedimastergrant's at 1100 and arrives at 1115 so there is some overlap in the lunch times where the groups can hang out and group A leaves to go to carp's at 1145.

1200-130

Group A carp

Group B jedimastergrant

(Just one group for the rest of the day)

200-430 Randy Bessinger

445-715 d_c (dinner) $10

730-whenever Archaea

We might have a few more rooms that can do demos either on Friday evening or Sunday. We have not had all the hosts chime in on availability.
@JDontee
@ChldsPlay -it looks like the room will not be ready in time
@MrSmithers -may be tied up that day
@chirpie
@cvinfig -Friday evening or Sunday
@wulfcomp -room is ready. waiting on availability
@Scrappydue -Sunday available

April 26 Sunday

Possibly a trip to the Atmos Theater at Barrywoods. Could be in conjunction with a stop at cvinfig's room.

Attendees 23 total right now. Trying to cut it off at 20. Kind of counting on a few people canceling. Only still kind of sort of open to out of town folks at this point. Please show interest in the thread and we will do it again sometime!

Hosts going to play unique stuff right? Whatever each host "digs", right?

I'll probably showcase some fun songs in all channel stereo since that's the way I run it, demo a few movie clips, and maybe throw a Xbox 360 Guitar Hero or Rock Band game up. I'll showcase my buttkicker transducers, nearfield subs, and darbee.

Something tells me we will be hearing some Justin Beiber.

Well, after the obligatory Bieber you may play whatever you want!

Yeah, I think we should all just do what we like and try to pick demos that we think showcase the particular strengths of our set up.

I am having a good time thinking about what I should do with mine. But, it is getting really hard to choose what to leave out with possibly only around 40-45 minutes. Although we have not nailed down the duration of each demo session yet.

I am regretting not having a Blu ray burner. So much stuff form various sources and I can't be switching stuff out all the time!

I love the guitar hero idea. Would it be better for us to end the tour at your place or at Dougs? I have never been to Dougs so not sure how big it is. Doug did offer to do some BBQ. Not sure how best to decide. Can I just let you two talk about it? Where to eat and what the last stop should be. I am sure either place would be great. The rock band thing would be fun for people to do for quite some time if they wanted to just hang out.

Jonathan, you have a blu ray burner right? Can I come over sometime and burn all my demo stuff on one disk?

I'm thinking I'll go heavy on concert video clips, a few movie clips, maybe some of that Atmos disk, demo the 215's by themselves, the Crowson and nearfield sub combo.

Umm me too if that materializes.

Sounds good carp.

Should we start taking bets on what percentage of carp's demo will be METAL?!?!?!?!?!?

@beastaudio @NWCgrad @asoofi1 @JimWilson @rush2049 @Anubis @Reefdvr27 @Gooddoc @Gorilla83

Others -- who I forgot to mention?!?!
If any of you east coast G2G regulars want to come up for the April KC HT crawl and need a pick up from the airport or a place to crash....I'm sure we can make that happen.
We've talked it over, and there are several of us in KC willing to host a forum regular overnight for the trip so you can avoid hotel fees.

Figure a plane ticket is about $225 round trip from the east coast and that's about all you'd be out. Probably won't be anything ground breaking you'd be seeing - but it's a fun chance to hang out with friends again and see more hobby related gear. Same goes for our friends in the north ( @Stormwind18, @lukeamdman - etc) , south ( @7channelfreak, etc) and our friends out west ( @Scott Simonian, etc)

Burning stuff to a bluray disk isn't much of a problem -- but authoring with the software that lets your bluray player read it ---- and editing the menus and stuff is not something I have the software to do (I can only burn disks that are already compiled) --- so it won't do you any good - unless it's a demo disk that someone else built. Sorry man. The software scubasteve used costs about $250,000 last I heard. I couldn't purchase that if I sold everything I own.

Oh nice! Thanks for the mention.

I might be able to make it happen. The plane ticket for me would cost ~$325 with no hotel. Having a ride and/or place to crash would help out too but I don't want to impose.

Scott

No imposition at all. I'll pick you up from the airport and drop you off. We've got 2 spare bedrooms ready to go at this time. $325 is kind of steep for a plane ticket though. Is it always that high to fly to KC area for you? My wife and I fly out east a couple times a year and we can nearly always pay $225 for a ticket. I don't fly out west often enough to compare (no family out west).

That sure is nice of you, Jonathan! I'll think about it for a few days and let you know if I'll head over. Was looking at flying out Friday morning and leaving Sunday night. Get both days in and hang out.

Yeah. Every time I've considered doing ANY of these long distance (for me) trips for GTG it's always expensive. $350-ish is the cheapest I've ever seen. The one I missed with Austin was like $700-900.

Maybe it's cuz I have to fly out from Fresno/Clovis? Idk.

Oh man, that sucks. So there is no avoiding having to switch disks? That kills so much time.

Very cool Scott, you definitely should come out!!

I would offer up a bedroom to any guys from out of town but we don't have any spare rooms. I do have a comfy second row couch in the HT room that would work in a pinch!!

Yeah. Every time I've considered doing ANY of these long distance (for me) trips for GTG it's always expensive. $350-ish is the cheapest I've ever seen. The one I missed with Austin was like $700-900.

Maybe it's cuz I have to fly out from Fresno/Clovis? Idk.
Yeah, we flew in to Fresno last year wen we visited Yosemite. Amazing trip. But, the plane ticket was expensive.

I have 2 open rooms at this time as well. Airport trips would be harder bc of commitments with kids.
