Thats what surprised me. The HD bluray quality is awesome. Better than the Samsung and no red smearing

Awesome to hear. I'm picking up my new oppo as soon as Paulsons has my replacement 5040. The first one had a dust blob on the lens. My theater is ripped up right now!

Subscribed! I am over south of Lansing, but would love to connect with some fellow HT enthusiasts in the state. I'm in the electrical stage of a basement finish / HT build, and love seeing all of the other builds and ideas shared here on the forum.

Be anxious to hear of some gtg in the future. Be happy to host one at my place sometime when my room is done, although, I'm not sure it will compare to some of the ones I'm seeing on the forum.

Well there will be several gtg's coming up very soon. It's awesome how much you can benefit from others experiences. Even if just to see/hear different equipment your considering, you'll get a feel for the experience your personality after in your own home. Much to learn for all of us. Thanks for posting and welcome.

I'm south of Lansing as well. I don't have a dedicated room like a lot of people on here. I run a nearfield setup these days (sig is old). Anyway it'd be nice to connect with people that aren't hours away lol. When you get your room setup I have experience with CSL calibrated UMIK-1 with REW and color calibration with a X-Rite i1 Display Pro if you're interested.

Absolutely! I have already learned so much just reading over many of the build threads. Visiting a few in person would be awesome!

That would be great. I've not used either of those calibration tools, but definitely want to ensure my system is running as best as I can get it. I'll keep you posted and would love to connect at some point.

Thanks guys!

Joining the thread here too. I am up by Fenton. Currently finishing a basement theater/bar area. Would love to see some setups. I will be upgrading the audio here within the year.

As a former resident of Canton, I miss living in a spot where I saw countless "M" plated cars, red lights were drag race opportunities, and property taxes are within the realm of sanity. Someday I would like to return the Michigan.

But I digress. I'm saving several thousand dollars by picking up a Ford in Lake Orion on Saturday (25th), and if anyone nearby has any interest in showing off their setups I'd love to check them out. I can offer my opinions based on my experiences with several of the Chicagolanders, lots of DIYSG speakers, and the trials of building my own soundproofed room (in the finalization stage). Certainly I'd return the favor if any of you ever venture out my way.

Subscribed as well. I am across the border in Windsor, but I figure I'm close enough.

I am at the beginning stages of my home theatre, as I just finished the DD between the floor joists. I'm and accountant over here and time is something I don't have very much of right now.

I will be running an Atmos set up and am looking forward to seeing some other theatres with an atmos set up.

Looking good! What are you room dimensions? I'm just looking at how to divide up my unfinished basement now. The 2 rows + bar setup takes up more length than you'd think.

Looking for some advice from local guys most likely farther into this than me...How would you divide up my unfinished basement? Looking to divide it off from the gym area, add bathroom, some storage and notice the stairs sticking out.

Leaning toward the longer space now which would give me 31' x 15.5' x 9' unfinished.

Best placement for theater in open basement

31X15.5X9' sounds like an awesome space to me. You can do a lot in a nice space like that. Mine is only 22X12.5X7'. You can easily fit a nice stage, a/t screen with lots of room behind, two rows of seats, one on a riser. I hope it all works out for you.

If you're looking for a great local deal on speakers and a screen with automated masking 1.33 to 2.40). I have a 14' wide Stewart AT screen (Vistascope) I'm going to let go. I may list a number of speakers as well (Quested) as I am moving and will start building a new home that won't be ready for another 16-18 months... with a new theater of course!

Thanks. Had some comments it could be awkward to walk into a riser...would need some step outside the entrance. Also, walking through the theater to the basement bathroom. Do you see these as "awkward" for a layout?

Still seems early in the game for screens but I could consider. 14' would basically go wall to wall once 15.5' is finished.

Never early. I think this screen listed at $22K. I paid less, of course, but would let it go well under $10K. It is a beast.

Only problem is the width is 17 foot. It is in perfect shape. Impresssice. Click on my link to see. I may sell all.

How do you think this incredible theater will do for home resale?

I really should have the AVS group over. I used to host some meets. Always a lot of fun and beer!

Once the house sells, I could do it before we move out - as it's all cleaned up and ready to show now. So bad timing for a party!

I'm going to offer some equipment with the home sale but hard to know if the theater will be a great selling feature. I'm leaving the 12 seats and perhaps the projector. Our realtors seem to think it will be a plus as it's in its own dedicated place and not using up valuable family room or basement space... but who knows? I have a package price for all audio equipment, but few likely would pay it.

I'll keep you all posted.

I am so excited about the chance to see your theater. Your equipment would forever be out of my reach cost wise. I'd love to experience it though.
