2017 Austin Texas Area Meet Up

Hello,
Austin Area Home Theater Geeks. I would like to get a happy hour organized before April 2017. Please help me lock down a date, time, and location for our first happy hour by taking this survey https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/62VWSTN

We all enjoy AVS Forum, and the learnings, but some experience is best shared over beer. We will see how this goes. I look forward to meeting you all. Please share with friends and other forum members who are interested.

Thank You,
Mike

Quick update - we have seven who have responded to the survey, North Austin and weekends are winning by a small margin.

DrunkPenguin - anyone who quotes Road Trip or Freddy Got Fingered is a friend of mine, if you need any suggestions for your night in Austin PM me.

I'm in! I would prefer a place that is not too loud so we can actually have decent conversations. I went to the Broken Spoke last weekend, and my eardrums are still recovering. I am on the North side, but anywhere would be fine for me.

There's always a BBQ place like The Salt Lick or Rudy's, which offers good food alongside something to drink.

I would opt for County Line over Rudy's. Salt Lick is very good.

My thoughts on BBQ, FWIW:

Salt Lick: Puts us either way south (Dripping Springs) or way north (Round Rock)
County Line: More of a traditional restaurant setting, versus the long table style seating @ Salt Lick + Rudy's ; sorta west part of town (2222 loc) or south (Bee Cave Rd)
Rudy's: Most locations to choose from

Although I'm in the northern part of town. I don't mind a trek down south if we meet-up on a weekend. I'm flexible.

If we go for a BBQ joint, I'd vote for County Line (simply 'cause I haven't been there in awhile) or Salt Lick in Round Rock. Do we need a poll? Lol.

Ordering "Country Style" at County Line make my mouth water! Either location would be convenient for me.

Here's the update: North Austin & Weekends both won with six vots. Given the BBQ talk I like the County Line idea thanks for the location help. So the final question is what day works better
Saturday 3/11 @ 3:11pm or Sunday 3/12 @ 2:12 pm?

Thanks everyone for being on-board looking forward to this. I'll send out the email once we get a rough estimate of Saturday or Sunday preference.

+1. A discussion about MSO would be interesting, @andyc56 .

To get the discussion flowing, I think we should all be prepared to give a brief talk on our areas of interest on AVS, our current projects and setups, and which AVS members we interact with the most. While I know some of the people who will be coming, I am not that familiar with what people are passionate about.

Those are some very specific times, Lol.

Are you sure that's the best weekend to do this? That's the beginning of Spring Break for those of us (like me) w/school age kids, and SXSW is March 10-19. This weekend I'll be finalizing my family's plans for the week of 3/11 - 3/18. I'll also be at a few events at SXSW, and I've got to review the schedule to determine when they are taking place.

Looking ahead to later in the month, I'm booked solid for Saturday, March 25.

Just tossing out those thoughts. I'll post here after I get my schedule sorted out over the next couple of days.

Dave

I would like to announce The Austin AVS Forums first two meet up dates and times:

1st Meeting - Sunday March 12th - 3:30pm @ County Line BBQ
2nd Meeting - Saturday April 15th - 1:15pm @ County Line BBQ

County line is located at 5204 FM 2222, it's at 2222 and 360. If County line is closed for a private event we will post and likely go to Phil's Ice House around the corner. After these two meetings we will start looking at having members host and formalizing presentations.

March is busy for everyone I understand, if you can't make the first meet up, catch us at the second. In no particular order people's interest include:
Just went dual subs and now looking towards projection.
Could use help learning REW.
MSO DIY subwoofers
Plex, Home Automation, OTA TV
Dedicated theater builds, interests, sharing and help!
REW, audio sampling/tweaking (looking for advice) I'm a big fan of creating an enveloping A/V 'experience' vs. 'watching a movie' Audio is more important to me than video.
DIY theater and speaker construction
Anything! Biggest passion is for front projection, OLED and HTPC
ALR projection screens.
Dolby atmos, DIY speakers, theater room design, acoustics and room treatment, hearing and seeing what others have in their own theater rooms
Room treatments and Cabinet building
DIY Speakers, TechShop, Room correction, display calibration, and room treatments

Mike,

Thank You for organizing! Odds are not too good that I'll be able to make the 3/12 meet due to Spring Break, SXSW, and other commitments. However, I'll be there if I can and wish you all a good time if I'm not! (and the 4/15 is def penned on my calendar).

Also, thanks for sending details via email as well.
