Poll: Gauge Interest in a Dallas / Fort Worth Area (DFW) Oct 2017 Get together (G2G)

It appears we have great interest in meeting other Home Theater enthusiast in our area. The purpose of this poll is to see wants to attend and when. I am happy to host but if you are in the North Dallas area (Plano, Allen, Frisco, Little Elm, McKinney or Prosper) and would also like to host, we may be able to have a mini crawl (visit multiple homes). If you are in one of those areas, or very close (I am in the middle of Frisco) and want to host, please post your interest and location below. Thanks and I hope to meet many of you soon!

UPDATE: Looks like we will need to post below with our answer as well in order to see who voted (unless I am missing a feature). Sorry, this is my 1st poll.

I'm interested. Would be great to check out a couple high end theatres and compare notes and solutions! Seems like most of you guys are up in the northern part of the metroplex. I'm in the Henderson-Knox area just a couple of miles north of downtown, and could host sometime in the future but probably too far to participate in a "crawl". Anyone have a JBL M2 installation......? Would love to hear one locally....

Definitely interested, definitely prefer 10/21. Going to a wedding 10/14. Any weekends 10/21 or after should work great for me. I'd just be there to hang out and share beer...no cool toys to bring

I vote that volume matching speakers be done with pink noise from 100hz to 12khz
and that listening level be fixed somewhere between 85-90 decibels.

Any seconds?

There will also be an official thread up soon linked here.
I mean, you can make another thread I guess, if you want to hash out the dirty details here then have a clean slate. Or just update your first post of this thread with all of the relevant info. I don't think a new thread is necessary, per se, otherwise we would end up with three threads pertaining to the same GTG. (Poll, GTG and Results Thread)

Level matching should not be a problem. I have an omnimic I can bring to take some measurements. Add a little objectivity to people's subjective opinions/perceptions.

That said, attempting to EQ every speaker to measure the same response from 100hz to 12khz would be next to impossible. Typically we pick a frequency and level match all speakers to said frequency. In this case, say 90db @ 1Khz.

Keep in mind, there is a lot more to consider....What we decide on crossing over to subs could be an issue for some speakers.

Let's first start by defining what we are looking to accomplish with this GTG... Keep in mind, things can get pretty complicated depending on what the goal is. If you want my opinion, I think we should keep things kinda casual for the first GTG. Check out someones spot, enjoy the food, music and maybe listen to a few different speakers with a small amount of setup.

Here are a few questions.

1. Is the goal critical listening or just hanging out and enjoying ourselves? I mean, are you guys wanting to rate your favorite speakers?

2. Are you guys wanting to do blind testing?

3. Comparing just speakers or subs?

Let's just keep the conversation open and we can hone in a consensus.

I vote for casual and just hearing some different gear and subs. I mostly want to connect with other people with the same interests, drink, and eat! I'll still bring my speakers but they can sit in my truck for all I care.

Ditto, though if possible I really would like to compare my GoldenEar SuperSat 60C center channel speaker to something else. Other than that, connecting with folks that enjoy HT over some snacks and drinks sounds like a great time.

I would like to attend even though I have nada to bring for any type of gear, well unless you all want me to bring a 50 inch LG TV with built in speakers. I could bring a movie poster I made. 2x4 ft in case anyone wants to see the quality of print on it.
I can supply much in the form of movies or tv shows to watch, if host has Plex. But hopefully if we can continue this GTG from year to year , I hope to have something to show or bring in the coming year.

My interest is to meet everyone and see how everyone has set up their speakers and if they have gone to ATMOS. To hear if it makes that much of a difference.

I can always bring beer or snacks.

My vote is this... pick one place, keep it casual, enjoy the company, beer, food, and of course the gear.

This way we can demo the main cinema, and then have a separate room to check out gear casually.

Wow, I did not realized there would be 14 people interested this quickly, very cool. I would recommend we keep it casual. I have plenty of room for those wanting to bring what they want to share but the space not suited for critical listening, acoustically.

I want to attend, and either day works for me. I am in Dallas now but hoping to be in Fort Worth soon. In the planning stage for a new set of DIY speakers. When the work starts I will start a build thread and possibly host the next event

I like your style sir. Have a friend with the M2's up in the NorthEast. Unaware of anyone down here with them. Definitely on my audition list.

I work right down the road from you off of SMU Blvd. Come holler some time.

@Unherdable and @popalock , while not the M2's the Southlake StarPower location has a high channel count JBL SCL system using the SDP-75. They have let me "play" with it on a few occasions.

Wow, I would never have thought of auditioning anything at Starpower. The last time I went into one locally (on Knox street), they had giant Carver (yuck) speakers and an absolutely awful garish demo theater with a horribly setup dim projector. But that was 5 years ago. I'll have to pop in and check it out. Thanks for the suggestion.
