You weren't the only one. I don't like butter on my popcorn.

Anyone go to the audio show today? If yes, anything that really stood out? I'll be going tomorrow. Any "must see" recommendations?

I'll make sure to visit Sanjay in the Theta room for the Casablanca give away contest

The jbl room. MBL. Deep sea sound. Avante garde (I just love giant horns). Plasma tweeter. The giant 6' tall electrostats. Couple other giant horn vendors. Think those were on my favorites list of the day. I skipped a lot of the more conventional speakers though and all of the hardware stuff too.

Couldn't believe how 99% of the vendors were using tubes.

When I walked into the room he was demoing this bit of hardware to someone else. Bluetooth correction using your iPhone. I'm not sure I like the idea of using my iPhone's $1 mic though.

I was very impressed and amazed at the bass output that 10" was putting out. I asked him if it was all coming from that one there on the table you see in the video and he replied that it wasn't actually on, that the one I was hearing was under the table. After that I just had to wonder how many hidden subs were actually playing.

The elac atmos speaker he had on display has me intrigued as I don't want to cut holes in my ceiling.

Good seeing you there. Wish you had stuck around for the give away (we called your name, but since you weren't there, we ended up just taking it back to the office).

Ray, thanks for posting that video. I checked it out at the show. Just can't beat the sound/price ratio for the ELAC line. It's a fantastic idea to be able to adjust your subwoofer settings while sitting in your favorite spot and hearing the adjustments in real time.

In one of the JBL/Harman rooms, they had the small speakers (I believe part of the new Synthesis line) which absolutely blew me away! No subs - just two small speakers. The only downfall was that it required the JBL outboard DSP/Amp. The MBL is always nice to see. But you can hire musicians to play for you every evening for a year and pay less

That's the story of my life! Just like when I won the $100M lottery, but couldn't find my ticket. I had a great time chatting with you. And thanks for the MiniDsp recommendation. I'm looking into it.

And it was fund seeing other members there as well! Had a wonderful time talking to everyone!

For the price of a JBL M2 set-up, I'd rather take that same money and spend it on the smaller bookshelf version and some subs. This would allow me to place the subs for best bass in the room and place the speakers for best imaging/soundstage. In many ways, the smaller speaker impressed me more than the big floorstander. I agree with you that they produced good bass for such a small (5.25") woofer.

@HowardV , that is the jbl 705i that I ranted about in another post. It was clearly the most jaw dropping experience I had that day. I'm not saying it is the absolute best sounding speaker at the show, just that I was so impressed with the quality and quantity of what was coming out of these tiny little things.

*Edit, I'm even more impressed now that you are saying there was no sub mated to it. I kept looking for them but figured they just hid it under a desk or something!

Sanjay, I'm not familiar with the M2. I didn't know the model until DotJun's post. From the pictures, I can verify it was the 705i. And it wasn't just the bass, but the sound quality was fantastic. I remember listening to the KEF LS50's last year and it quickly became my favorite bookshelf speaker at $1,500. I'd really like to put the LS50 and 705i in a head to head competition.

The JBL M2 is their flagship studio monitor (15-inch woofer, larger waveguide, proprietary compression driver). They run $6K each, not including electronics (another $6K for the amp and $7K more for the outboard crossover/EQ).

For that same amount of money, I was saying in my previous post that I would rather have the bookshelf speakers you heard (smaller versions of the M2), which would leave me enough to do a really good multi-sub set-up.

That sub/sat combination would be better than the large floorstanders.

Got it! I've never listened to the M2's. I'd really like to hear the Everest some day. They had it at the show, but they weren't doing any demo's when I was there. But I see your point about sat/subs.

Underwhelming. Spectacular dynamic but a tiny sweet spot (no excuse for the latter in this day and age).
