Really disappointed I couldn't make the GTG. We're in the process of refinancing our house, rate lock expires this Friday, and the only thing holding up our loan is the finalized home inspection report. The report was held up subject to completion of some unfinished construction improvements around the house. I had contractors Saturday doing drywall taping and plastering that spilled over into Sunday so I couldn't make the lunch meeting.

Can someone give a brief synopsis of what was discussed/decided for those of us interested but unable to attend?

It would be much appreciated.

Peter

BTW - Ray, congrats on your 10 year anniversary and perseverance to help the LA HTG grow and help new members.

Many thanks to everyone who came out for the movie, lunch and the inaugural meeting of what I am confident is going to become an even cooler club than we already have. For those that didn't make it, no fears - there will be future activities aplenty.

A brief recap:

* We anticipate calling ourselves the Los Angeles Audio/Video Association - LAAVA
* Looking into available domains for a website
* Also looking into a cool logo (perhaps volcano-themed?)
* Going forward there will be regular meetings every 2 months
* The precise date and time of the next meet (and those thereafter) is under discussion, but based on the 2 month guideline figure sometime in October
* We tabled for the future a decision about precisely how formal to make the Association - i.e. whether or not to incorporate as a California nonprofit with a Board, officers, bank account etc. We'll see how we do for a few months and then make that call
* I will be building an email-based distribution list to get the word out about the founding of the group, future meetings, etc. We'll also be planting flags on Facebook and perhaps Yahoo Groups

It's gonna rock!

You forgot about the Denon rep that gave us all prototype 2017 receivers to test out.

You were not to say anything about that...that is why we signed the NDA.

Yeah, I think 4 times a year would be too few and monthly might be too much (at least for now). Every 2 months seems like baby bear's porridge: juuuuuust right.

Once we choose a day (not date), we should stick to it for consistency. If we decide, for example, on the first Sunday or the third Sunday of every other month, then sticking to that day will give everyone a predictable date around which to plan.

The concern about formality has to do with taking something we do for fun and turning it into a chore; complete with assigned tasks, obligations and deadlines. Nothing wrong with having a formal association, considering how well it works for organizations like the LAOCAS and the local AES chapter, just not sure it's a good fit for this motley crew.

Very nice. Now all it needs is animation where there are some big explosions.
