I can't do anything in March. The soonest I can do it is Apr 24th.

Can we settle on Apr. 24 at Warren's then? It would be good to nail this down and I can help organize and contact people privately if needed.

We can always do something sooner if Vigga or somebody else wants to offer a place. Mar. 20th or 21st would work well for me.

24th of April works for me for a big meet-up.
The only weekend that works for me in March is the 13th.
I'm happy to volunteer my place for something that weekend if there is interest in doing something sooner than the 4/24. I guess reply to this thread or PM me? I'll look for some sort of critical mass before moving forward. I can move the couch out of the theater and seat probably 8 stadium style - as you can see from the link, it isn't a huge space. For those interested, my current gear is highlighted in my construction thread. A lot of gear comes in and out, but this is pretty much stable for the next month or so.

I am good for the 24th or April - boss says 'okay'. Just need to get some names, etc. I can do an evite for the event.

Anyone wanting to help organize and ensure good content, let me know.

Yes, I've collected a bunch of names and email addresses and I will put together into a doc and send to Mark and Warren.

This list encompasses people that I've contacted from a couple of different threads over the last year and a half. I would suggest sending an evite with clear explanation of what the event is to everyone and you'll be lucky if you get 40% or so to actually attend.

I am pretty sure I could do 4/24. In the not too distant future, I could have some people over at my place.

Josh, Warren and I will work to start putting this together for the 24th. All those interested should PM Josh or I. We'll get an Evite out with details and itinerary shortly.

Getting resubscribed to this thread.

thanks Warren for getting that organized. it was fun and educational and nice to meet some other locals.

I think we should definitely try to do this monthly.

I would offer my place, but i have a 2 yr old, so it would need to be during the day on a weekend.

We had a very nice Raleigh-Durham Home Theater meetup this past weekend! Nine local RDU enthusiasts had the pleasure of hearing and seeing some great information regarding video calibration using Calman and the i1 Pro. We also covered various issues regarding room audio correction and testing using TrueRTA and a calibration mic.

We also had a good discussion around HTPC setups and pros and cons of using ripped movies.

Finally, we were able to watch a a few minutes of The Dark Knight and Avatar for some demo material.

And, of course, lots of pizza and beer - how could anything go wrong with that!

We look forward to the next meetup.

See Pictures below:

Thanks Warren for sharing you home and theater. What a fun and educational time. It was great meeting up with others who are passionate about Home Theater. Definitely worth the drive from Fayetteville. I look forward to the next one.

Yes, thanks Warren, it was great getting together. I've been trying to get my frequency response as flat as possible since then. Of course, it takes me about 30 min per curve instead of 30 seconds!

I need to build some bass traps. Anyone got any good DIY designs I can use? It seems slightly compress R19 may make good bass traps from what I've read. Anyone had luck using it?

I'm interested in how you decide to move forward building these. I built some DIY 2' x 4' panels and just have a couple of those diagonally in the corners but they're not really doing the job of a real bass trap.

I'd like to add my thanks to Warren as well. A really great time and good people. What a nice setup!

I'd also like to put some feelers out for the next meetup. Is there anyone willing to host a meetup sometime in June? Don't feel as though your setup has to be as large or elaborate as Warren's. I think it would be educational to sample all different manner of setups.

Please let us all know on the forum and then we can discuss offline as well.

Thanks

The idea I have is to buy a few rolls of R19 and cut into equal triangles. Then make 9' stacks of them, wrap them in fabric and place in the corners. I just have no idea how much they should be compressed to provide the best benefit.

Once my new speakers arrive I'll be happy to host the next one. Unfortunately I can't fit too many people in the theater at once...

What about June 12th?

Although I don't mind hosting anytime, I think there is a lot of value is seeing what everyone has done.

I'm hesitant to commit until I have my new speakers - not entirely sure when that'll be at this point. We are hoping for end of May, first week of June - but you never know.

I've decided to build 2 of the panels found here.

The plans are in the pdf and it looks very simple once I find the 703 panels. I'll need 5 panels since my ceiling is 9'.

I found this place locally and they have good prices, plus you don't have to pay for shipping.

http://www.spi-co.com/

They don't stock the unfaced OC703, so you have to buy it by the case. Price for 96 sqft (12 panels) of 2" is $104.64 and price for 48 sqft (6 panels) of 4" is $105.12.

I'm going to order the 2" and stack them together to make 4" bass traps. That will leave me 3 panels left to make initial reflection point panels for my side walls.

I already bought some fabric this weekend. Total cost of 2 9' x 2' x 4" bass traps will be less than $200.

Need some help guys. My projector bulb went out two weeks ago. I just got my new one today, though it was damaged. I got it back together, but it didn't work. I'm not sure if the bulb is bad or if my projector is. The original bulb I was using had less than 3000 (out of 5000) hours on it. I heard it pop when I turned it on and the bulb never lit.

If and when I get another new bulb and it doesn't light either, does anyone know of a good repair center for Mitsubishi? Even if it lights, I still need to have the projector cleaned, so I'd like to know of a good repair place. All the ones listed on Mitsubishi's website seem get mixed reviews. Thanks.

I'm going to follow Warren here - if anyone is looking, or knows someone looking, for some very nice speakers, I'm finally selling my PSB Stratus front stage. Stratus Silver i towers (Cherry) and Stratus C5i Center. You can check out my build thread for pictures. Available for demo. PM me for details.
