I was just at Fry's here in Vegas and they had the 67" for $1799 with the 61" (I think it was the 750 not the 650) for $1399. I nearly crapped my pants, 'cause I would love to have the 67" at that price but just didn't have it in my budget until later this year.

Opinions: I currently have a 42" LCD in my bedroom and would move my current 56" DLP (last year's LED model) up to the bedroom when I get the 67" for downstairs ..... unless I sell my 56" (for about $1K maybe) and use that money toward the 67". What would you guys do?

I did a search for the HL67A750S and it seems interchangeable with the HL67A750.

I found the HL67A750 for $1470 + $199 shipping from 2 stores. Broadway Photo and Quest4Camera but both have unsatisfactory ratings.
I just emailed OneCall which I have bought from before and has a good rating if they would price match $1799 + free shipping. I will post back when I get an answer.

I am continuing to get more and more excited. We have decided to upgrade our theater room at the firehouse and have ordered the HL61A750 and will have it within the next week. We are going from an old RCA SD rear pro 52" behemoth. I really appreciate all the work that everyone here does and I'm sure I will get great use from this thread once I am taxed with setting up the new digs. We also picked up the Sony BDPS350 Blu ray player and the Yamaha YHT-590BL surround sound setup.

It seems we got great deals on all of the equipment as well:

HL61A750: $1450
BDPS350: $179
YHT-590BL: $419

I am wondering if the price on the 61 or 67 is really going to drop much further. If this is the last year for the Sammy LED DLP, from a sales perspective, it makes sense to keep the price where it is, they will eventually sell out.

Anyone have any idea if this could be the last year for the Sammy LED DLP?

My Panasonic 60 RPLCD died a few weeks ago and it was the perfect reason to upgrade to the HL61A750. Crutchfield had it on sale for $1368 delivered for the weekend special but I dod not buy it from there.

I went to the local Electronics Expo in Ledgewood, NJ and they sold if for $1368 delivered + tax. So it came out to $1463. I paid the extra in case of a problem and the store was local. EE delivered it two days after I ordered it and I'm very happy with the choice.

Mine has version 1006.1 firmware, so may have been sitting in their warehouse (they did say they had 35 in the warehouse at time of order).

I did notice the original Xbox 360 with component cables through my Onkyo SR875 will only do 1080i. The PS3 is full 1080P. I have the Dish Vip622 sat receiver and PS3 both HDMI and the Xbox360 and Wii using component going into the Onkyo then HDMI out of the Onkyo to the tv. Is there any reason to connect the video from the sources direct to the tv instead of going through the Onkyo and letting it convert?

I have a launch X360 connected to the 67" LED DLP using component and I'm getting 1080p with no problems. Sounds like it's the Onkyo that's not passing 1080p over component through properly.

True.

Samsung in one of the only HDTV manufacturers that allow 1080p over component.

I just picked up the 750 for $1049. It's been refurbished, but comes with fill Samsung warranty, and is in the box like new. It's hard to know whether the TV was actually broken, or just a model that got sent back to Samsung for whatever reason and is now being resold. Either way, it was worth the extreme savings. No shipping charges either as I'm picking it up.

Thanks for all the info on the TV in this thread, I will definately use it to calibrate it, fine tune settings, etc.

He improved the tilt by realigning some board, and replaced the main board for the drop out issue. Tech said bowing couldn't be fixed. New main board has firmware 1006.0, with the LED control menu item missing... Older than one that came with TV (1006.1). In addition, when turning off the TV, the backlight stays on for about 10 seconds longer than with the other main board/firmware. Not sure if this is an issue in itself, but it's really a moot point...

Called CF, told them I was not completely satisfied, and am having this 61" swapped out with a 67". Fingers crossed!

trying to understand this issue you are talkin about, currently I own a 61" and a 50" the 61" has been green for 2 months now, red led died , waitin on Samsung and the 50" that belongs to one of my sons has as row of what appears to be brackets (((((((((((((((((())))))))))))))))))))))))))) running about 5" from the bottom of the screen when usin the wii game console is this what you are talkin about

I thought I would make my first post an intro and comment on the firmware update process. I noticed one of the users on the other thread was contemplating the update but was waiting for some reason. DON'T WAIT!! It's a super easy process and fixes the power-off bug in the previous software version.

I picked up my set last Friday from BB on their web-special price, along with the $100 off for any BR player, so we went with the PS3. All I can say is the PQ is absolutely stunning. Our old set was a Panasonic rear projection from '02. It's power supply board melted down a capacitor and it would just shut itself off within about 5 seconds on power-up. BTW, Costco took that set back for full credit after five and a half years. Too bad they don't sell Samsung!!

I arrived at pretty much the same picture settings that Mike has posted, great info there. We watched our second BR movie on Wednesday and got our first power-cycle black-out. I had already been lurking on other thread so wasn't surprised when it happened.

At that point I decided to look into the firmware update, so I jumped on the 'net and found the Samsung site and sure enough, easy enough to download the file. I also found that on the set, in the SW (software) update mode, if you press the 'info' key it displays the current firmware version of the set. Mine was 1001, the new file is 1004. I imagine that means there were three updates since my set was built. BTW, Samsung only offers up the most current firmware version on their site, along with a PDF sheet with instructions.

Since it hasn't been detailed on any of the threads yet I thought I would go over the process to ease any aprehension from any of the new set owners.

The download file is about 20mb, it's an execute file that unzips the compressed files for updating the set. You do need a USB flashdrive in order to do the update. When you run the exe file you are promted for an unzip folder. Just tell it to unzip to your flash-drive, it will create a folder and put the required files in it. The set automatically locates the folder/directory it needs on your flash drive and runs the update.

Insert the flash drive in the USB socket on the back of the set, cancel the prompt for 'Wise' connection, then select the menu item for SW Update. It does it all by itself, and you're good to go!

The latest report form the owners is that this fixes the power-off cycling with hdmi connected componenets. I have not tried another BR movie yet but I'm guessing my set is fixed.

For anyone lurking that's trying to decide if these sets are any good, I can say without hesitation that they are fantastic. The stores are pushing LCD, but in this size they are really expensive. Unless you need a wall-mount set, the Samsung just has to be the best unit out there, especially now with the LED lamping system.

Thanks for reading and happy viewing!

HELP!!!
where do i get the file? i went to firmware and the website says it is out of biz!!!

Klyde do not buy from broadway photo, they are scammers. My father in law was about to buy a Nikkon D60 from them, until i googled them. They have quite a few alias' also.
On a happier note i finally pulled the trigger on the Sammy hl61a750. I got this set for $1,215.23 shipped through reputable authorized dealer. Regular price was $1449 with free shipping + $10 shipping insurance - $200 using live.com cashback - 3% using my chase credit card ($43.77). The cashback went immediately into my paypal acct., wow!
Do you guys think this is a good deal? I saw this tv yesterday at Worst Buy and loved it, and it was sitting up on a 6 ft. stage, it still looked good. Can't wait for delivery!

Klyde, don't always believe what you read. This was the maximum allowed ($200) on a purchase. It was immediately put into my paypal acct., i am not jiving you.
It usually takes 60 days, but so what after that it goes directly to your paypal. But being it was the maximum cashback allowed i guess it is immediate.

Also what is the response time on the 61"? can't seem to find that rating.
And should i use the HDMI or the D-SUB to connect to PC? Does it matter?

Interesting, David. But wouldn't a true compromise have been 19x9? 2.35 + 1.85 / 2 = 2.1 * 9 =19.

That being said, side or top bars don't bother me in the least. I want to see the content as shot, without crops or distortions.

Sometimes the cashback is instant. It's never happened to me, but I've seen reports of it on fatwallet. But even if it takes 60 days, so what? I used them when I bought my TV (and before they had a $200 cap), and got my cashback a couple months ago.

My dual Rythmik Servo sub project (actually quad now, need to update page)
HDM format neutral thanks to the pricing wars of the '07 xmas shopping season :)

I find about 8' on our 67" is nice... At least for HD stuff. For SD cable, the further away the better (like 12'). It really surprised me that I like sitting that close to it for the movies we've watched so far.

I just did the exact same deal, but also had a 10% (max $100) Paypal coupon that I used also.

The TV looks great, just need to get a tv stand now (old Tv was mounted to the wall).

I'm coming from a Toshiba 42LX177 LCD, and this Samsung is just amazing to say the least.

as long as the dealer is an authorized Samsung you will get the 1 yr. manu. warranty.
I am going to my local Ollies surplus store to buy a stand for $50, it's nice. No way am i going to buy a $300 stand and kill this deal. This set only weighs 70 lbs. anyway.
