Is the $100 coupon a secret then? I'm ready to order NOW if I can figure it out. This is frustrating.

FYI, there appears to be a controversy brewing over whether this TV qualifies for the $200 NFL gift card...

I just reviewed the rebate form. Seems fairly straight forward to me. Not sure where the confusion is coming from.

The way I see it, they are taking two different promotions with two different requirements and bundling as one then thinking it only applies to those models listed. The $500 instant-rebate is the one that only works for the listed TVs. The requirement for the $200 GC is any Samsung HDTV $1000 and UP.

OK, I got mine on Monday from Crutchfield, and I have a light spot on mine also. Any kind of black scene and there is a spot of light on the screen. It looks like somebody was inside the screen shining a flashlight out. When you first start up the TV and it is searching for the signal it is very noticeable, also on Call of Duty when a map is loading and the screen is black you can see it. You cannot see it when the TV is off, is is obviously light shining through in the exact same spot. This sucks because I love the TV and I don't know if Crutchfield will have enough stock to replace it.

What price did you get? Do they match Conn's price of $999?

I have been waiting for 2 days for the goldbox trick to work but no luck so far.

I'm having the same issue as a few - the HDMI and a few other settings are greyed out. I know at one point they were not, but I can't seem to get them back to active, even when resetting the picture settings.

I got this set from Samsung as a replacement for a defective HLS5679 and this picture seems alot less crisp than the 5679, even using Lee's settings, plus I have a pretty good bout of silk screen effect.

Any advice welcomed.

Have you verified this in a completely dark room? The internal mirror will reflect ANY external point light source.

Yes, I'm in a basement with no light coming in. i turned off every light in the room. It's almost like an oval shape and about 2 or 3 inches in diameter. It must be something wrong with a mirror.

Been lurking on this thread since December, thanks to all the posts I was able to learn from.

I was waiting for the 67" to come down to more the $1500 price point, but realized that is probably not going to happen. With sites starting to list these 61 and 67 as discontinued, the end appears to be near.

I bought from the big river last night, 61" and the gold box trick worked for me. Thanks so much for posting it. $1282.48 with White Glove I believe. I'm happy.

I live just south of Houston. Today's Conn's flyer still had the 61" on sale for $999 (bottom of page 3). I assume this applies to all their locations.

I think Crutchfield will only offer you a refund at this point. A couple other people had similar situations and Crutchfield told them they have no more. I emailed them to find out if they had a few extra to sell and they told me "everything they had coming in and then some" was spoken for. If you really have a problem and want to have this set, you should call Samsung and have a service tech check it out.

It appear Crutchfield has them back in stock (for $100 more). I just checked their website.

The 61A650 is 1399.99 on Crutchfield's website. Not the 61A750. I was gonna be upset if it were 61A750 b/c i checked earlier and my order still showed back ordered.

Hello,
Just got this TV for my parents and they watch a lot of standard TV. The pic is horrible their 10 old rptv trumps the Sammy what gives. Also when watching a movie with black bars i can see the picture through the bars. Its really annoying.. Any help would be appreciated.

I saw a huge improvement on SD vs. my 5 year old HLN DLP. I'm using HDMI from the cable box. Was your cable box set to output a specific resolution with the old TV?

You might find a little information about the picture bleeding through the top bar during movies - not something I've experienced on mine, and I don't know if it's correctible, but it has been discussed on this thread. If you're talking about bars on the side, though, that's something I haven't read about.

It's SD content. Just how good did you expect it to look? Returning an HD display based on SD performance....now that makes sense.

Better wait till OTA TV goes digital. You'll see a big difference.

OTA is already digital. They also transmit an analog signal...that's what is getting shutdown.

Given the horrific budget situation that NY is in, they recently passed a law that says Amazon has physical presence in NY because some of its partners, which sell products on Amazon, have a presence.

This is a blatant money grab by NY and is being contested by Amazon in the courts. They hope to win the court case and claim refunds for the sales taxes remitted.

Technically, in all states with a sales tax, you are required to remit use tax if you bring in a product on which you have not paid sales tax. Generally this tax is self-reported on the state individual income tax. As may be guessed, levels of compliance with this requirement are low.

As a result, several states have talked about requesting sales records from large online retailers to try to catch people with large unreported use tax liabilities. This is a pretty low risk for people as the total amount of use tax per consumer is generally low. For example, purchasing a $1500 television from Amazon and having it shipped to a state with a 6% sales tax would give rise to a $90 use tax liability. It would cost a state most of that to track down the individual.

In reality, the most fair thing to do is ensure that everyone pays tax on purchases. Usually, those who whine the most about having to pay taxes are the first ones who complain when their road needs repair or when the police don't respond quickly enough.

Eventually taxation will catch up to internet shopping and all will have to pay. Live with it.

That's exactly what I thought when reading Phoenix's post...

Still, with some tweaking it should look passable. You aren't zooming the display to fill the screen are you? SD analog looks especially pitiful on my set that way. Analog or digital, 4:3 SD should be in postage stamp mode.
