I bought the unit back in April, 2005. The original lamp was in service until this past August, at which time it had logged approximately 3,900 hours.
The symptoms that indicate the bulb is ready for the scrap yard began to surface, so I purchased a new lamp.
That was in August, meaning I have had the new bulb for about three months. For the past two or three weeks, the set has shut itself off several times. Just like that, it turns off. I wait a few minutes and turn it on again. Works fine. . .until the next time the same thing happens. It just happened twice in about a 15 minute period. The set had been on for about 90 minutes.
Any ideas? A defective bulb? Something else? Thank you.

Diagnosing intermittent shutdown on these can be almost impossible, so usually the recommendation is to replace the light engine ($550 + labor).

If it helps, I have noticed that the front panel LED indicator no longer shows the red Stand By/Temp light when the TV is off. Seems to have started about the same time the intermittent shut offs began.
Once the TV is on, though, the green Lamp light funtions normally.
Does this help give any clues as to what might be wrong? Thank you.
