Hi,
the "spot" actually covers more of half of the surface of the screen, like a centered ellipsoid. I can think of 2 possibilities:

- the lamp: But why are the borders of the black spot so sharp?
- the LCD: But how come that it is so perfectly black?

Is this a common failure of LCD RPTVs? I have no experiences with these, just got it in this condition...

BTW, if it was ever necessary, do you know if/how it is possible to enter the service mode without the remote control? I don't have it...

thanks a lot!

I'm not familiar with European models, but a quick google says that's not an LCD/DLP. Suggest you post pictures of this black spot

Hi hammerdwn, my problem was in the beginning that a quick google said on dozens of pages nothing more then "BUY LAMP NOW".
After a longer google I was able to download the service manual ( www chris-electronics.iuliman dot com is an excellent resource, maybe use translate.google)
under the chassis reference PLT51A. It says: p-Si active matrix LCD
BTW what other kind of TV sets could use a lamp?

anyways, now that I have the manual I am going to have a look at the optics and LCD. Thanks for your suggestion, I will do so if I get stuck!
