I could see no discernible difference in light output after powering it on vs the old one that has about 5k hours on it
... so I put the original one back in and will use it till it dies.

That's the point. A lamp with 5000 hours on it will be dimmer than a new lamp. You should see a markedly brighter picture with the new lamp. But you didn't. And if your current lamp is working fine, there's no reason to buy a new one. It will sit in the closet until the warranty expires.

OK.... I dont know how that was ur point in your original reply to my post, because ur post spoke pointed at my new bulb being a cheap knockoff =P
My original stock bulb just seems to have a good life so far, still putting out as much light as a new genuine OSRAM bulb =)
I decided to buy the new bulb because my original one is getting long in the tooth and expected it to be dimmer and die at any time sooner rather than later. But given the new bulb is same light output, its now a backup I have on hand for when the original does blow up =)

And dang, Im loving the blacks again with this new DMD....!
