I've been browsing this site to get information for my problem but have not found any - reason for posting this.
My Samsung DLP TV (Model # HLN617W) just shut off one day and the lamp light starts to blink. Obviously, I thought it was the lamp so I bought one and installed it to find out its not the problem. When I turn the TV on I can hear a reving sound and then it stops after about 5 seconds and the TV turns itself off and it comes on by itself followed by the reving shound. I also noticed that the Lamp led is blinking. I would really appreciate any help and thanks in advance.

Look behind the lamp housing and see if the color wheel is broken or not spinning correctly. That is often the next item after the bulb that goes out. And the noise points to the color wheel malfunctioning as well.

Hi Mess444,
Thanks for the reply. Will look at the CW when I get home this afternoon.
Noticed you are in N Texas. Anyway close to Keller?

"Date first available at Amazon.com: May 22, 2003"

This the only problem you've had with the set?

My mom works for Sony, and she brought home a copy of "Starhawk BETA"
I quickly slipped it into my trusty PS3, and started playing.

Those HLN's are pretty good, color wheels and lamps are just about all that dies on them.

I purchased the Color Wheel for my Samsung HLN617w and was wondering if anyone can point me to instructions for replacing the color wheel.
The only problem I had earlier was to replace the lamp after about 3.5 years. Now it looks like the CW. Thanks for any help.

OP, can you tell me if a new color wheen fixed your issue?
I am having a similar issue, but my tv goes into standby mode with a blinking green light

Does this look familiar?

Hello all,
I am looking for some assistance with a problem my mother in laws TV is having.
I actually had a local TV service place pick it up last week and they had it for 3 days and could not replicate the issue so we got no help.

Symptoms

The TV will work fine for days.
There is no issue with the picture.
All of a sudden the TV will go into Standby mode. If you let it sit long enough, the pic will come back on and then again may work for days or even a week or 10 days.

I know it is not the bulb because I had 2 new bulbs on hand and the issue occurs with the new bulbs in place.

Could this be a color wheel issue? Will a failing color wheel put the TV in standby mode?

Anyone out there seen this issue or and provide any suggestions it would be much appreciated.

A failing color wheel usually sounds like a buzz saw. Could be a intermittent cooling fan.

Thank you for your answer.
Is it possible that a fan could run for a week or 10 days and then fail?

It could be running intermittently causing the set to overheat and shut down.

Wow, I'm amazed that there's even a thread still out here for this set. I have one that is now over 5 years old. I had the color wheel replaced under an extended warranty and they replaced the lamp also...even though the lamp was still good. No other problems at all in all this time. Still has a great picture. I even had it moved from Ohio to Texas in the back of a semi a few months back and it is still problem free. In fact I was sort of secretly hoping that it would die so I could replace it with an LCD. But I just couldn't buy anything smaller than 61"...especially with a dedicated theater room. So I went out and bought a Mitsubishi 82738. See my latest post here http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showp...&postcount=291

What I like about the HLN617W is the heavy duty besel that allows me to place a center channel right on top without any sagging or warping of the screen. They sure knew how to build-em back in the "old" days!

Better to want what you don't have, than to have what you don't want!
