Well I just got this new Mitsubishi 73 WD-73640; I guess this the new 2012 models as I was told? First off this is the first time I have ever bought a DLP TV. Let me say that this thing is a cool TV; the picture is awesome crystal clear if you are watching a HD channel. I use this in my living room for regular TV, blue ray movies, and to play my PS3. I have not tired the 3D yet, but can’t wait to see how that looks like. The TV is easy to set up, has a lot of options for the video part of it but I am debating to get this calibrated by a pro, let’s see what you guys recommend. The one thing that kind of bugs me is that the games don’t look so clear like the regular TV and the blue ray movies, don’t get me wrong they look good, but on my old TV which was a Sony 55 Bravia they really looked bad ass. To be honest the games looked better then watching regular TV. I am still messing with it and we will see what happens, if anyone can recommend some settings I would appreciate it a lot, if you guys have any questions about it shoot me an email and I will try to answer it the best way I can, thanks everyone.
P.S I’m new to these forums ok.

So here is the situation and i need some help. About 2 months ago i bought a 60" Sharp LC-60LE832U which is an LED for around 2100 after taxes. Its a nice tv but there are some flaws and little things that bother me about it, like the colors sometimes and pixelation problems it has when there are fast moving scenes. I only noticed the DLP tvs after i had bought the sharp, because i thought they were a dead technology. In deed i was wrong after doing the research. I am very close to pulling the trigger on taking my sharp back and getting the WD-73640 model, I would be getting a bigger tv and saving around 4-500 dollars. I have never owned a DLP tv before, i have experience with plasmas, LCDs, and now LEDs. Please someone give me some advice if i should make this move. I find myself to be a stickler for motion blur issues with tvs. I also read some reviews on the WD-73738 model which i could get cheaper, but i saw where that tv had some geometry issues and had hdmi input issues. How do these DLP tv's look while playing ps3? Is there any motion blur or lag? That also could be a make or break for me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You do not need the 3DC-1000 adapter with that TV, just the IR emitter and glasses and then set the TV to Automatic. The adapter is needed with last year's 3D Ready model WD-73638.

KZ3 SSUUCCKKSS. perspective ok but the left eye was alot dimmer than right. Like you had a smudge on it; but was not. CoD black opps... well that another story... IT WAS AMAZINGLY GOOD. AND ADDICTING. crisp an clear. color like it supposed to be. Totally opposite of KZ3. So TRON in a day or 3. But very impressed of this set. Now for quality. It made it through the shipping. An that trip from the inclosed porch to backyard;un boxing; then to the itty bitty MAN CAVE. i BELIEVE i have have hit optimum entertainment for my cave. Maybe better sound treatment. BUT I AM A HAPPY AN BLESSED MAN. Is this worth the price: YES. It will be better when go on sale. SSSsOOOO i got mine as warranty replacement. it was almost free..... but it is NEW. it is 3D. oohhh yea I did update the firmware. yup already an update; an ONCE unzipped on thumb drive and installed on TV. no issues.....yeeaaa.

Just purchased this TV! Never thought I would be doing the "Happy Dance" around the house at 36 years old, but damn it, I just had to! Being delivered tomorrow! Daughter is excited as well. Pictures and maybe a youtube video to follow. (Have a nice 720p/1080p video camera.) Now back to dancing.........

Cool Beans.

Hi everybody,

I am a new member and I am really confused about which set to buy. I am debating between WD73738 and WD73640. I know 640 is the 2011 model and doesnt have internet capability which I dont care for! I havent seen any real review about 640, can anyone give some good and bad between these models. Since 640 is a newer model do you think it will be better than 738?

Thank you so much for the help.

I'm not real familiar with either model but I think the entry models have a lesser processor at least that's what I've read on this forum. I'd probably go with the 738 or 740. Go to Mits website and compare features.

I don't agree with that, many times newer isn't better.

Remember, they are trying to get rid of last years model.

And I would whole heartedly disagree after a side by side, almost setting by setting observation. I bought my 640 from Pauls for $1349, 1440 out the door. 73738 next to it. Yes the 738 had 2200 hrs as opposed to the 400 hrs on the 640. But I was hard pressed playing with the basic settings(brightness, contrast, tint, color) to see a difference in actual PQ. Not to mention they only took $50 off the floor model for a price of 1549 for the 738.

If you don't have the need for the internet apps, get the lesser expensive model, also has nice Advance Picture settings menu every little color calibration you would want. Only issue I had was in 3D, the DLP Link mode turned the screen a very distinct green, even with the glasses on blacks were still tinted green. Thanks to people in that thread, I will be getting an IR emitter and fully enjoying this tv soon. (3D was still awesome, just the Green tint was driving nuts.)

Menu button, 2-4-5-7 and you're in the screen position settings, that you adjust using the directional key. Hit 0 for Geometry Settings menu which worked great for getting the picture straight on all edges. The other settings I have no clue of yet, other than DBLK which is set from 0 or 1. It made blacks darker, but I am not sure that was its intention. Hopefully as more people buy this set we can get some other tweaks/calibration settings.

Cool Beans.

The difference was $50 at amazon, so I opted for the 73738 for $1349.99. I heard nothing but good things about 738 and the 640 had no reviews yet.

... I cancelled my 73738 order. I am going to purchase the 73640 because Amazon fullfills the order with 24 months 0% financing. I don't care about getting face book on my TV. I am going for the newer model. Can you please tell me where you purchased the IR emitter as well as the make and model? Please post your thoughts after getting the IR emitter.

Version 13.03 should already be on the HDTV. I guess they are getting the html framework ready for firmware updates. Maybe too the latest version is there if flashing is required again for whatever reason due to some problem or something. When a new one is issued, everything will be ready online for it.

Hello I am new to this forum and just received my Mitsubishi WD-73640. I am very happy with the picture quality and features of the TV. My question is what 3D glasses are compatible with this TV. I have a Sony Blu Ray DVD(3D) and Dishnetwork HDTV programming. I called Mitsubishi help desk and they were not very helpful. I also stopped by the local Best Buy and they were even less help.
Do I need an emitter?
Do the glasses have to be Mitsubishi brand?
Can I use passive 3D glasses?
What is DLP link?
Any help on this subject will be appreciated.
Thank you.

DLP Link is the signal sent out from a TV that has it equipped that works with DLP LINK glasses. It turns my screen a light green and works fine. THe green is just too much for me in dark scenes, so thats why I am personally going with the emitter and IR Glasses.

Go to google or amazon.com and type in DLP Link glasses. I would personally get a single pair and try it out first to make sure thats what you want. And please read the other postings in this thread for other info. I posted the codes for service menu to make other adjustments as well.

so user opinion is pretty good with this?
i live in australia and i'm able to source one for about $900US, which is very cheap when i look at prices online and also consider the cost of shipping this type of TV here.
i currently use a DLP projector and find the picture is good, so i'd be happy to use a rear pro tv with 3d, 1080p etc. and not be too concerned if its missing some apps or wifi etc.
can anyone with the tv put up any pictures or videos.
how does the contrast of this thing compare to the likes of a decent plasma or sony sxrd tv etc

Question for you here....
When I purchased my WD62525 I received tons of technical information, how to get into setup/alignment menu, call up internal test signals, and other good stuff.... Including in access to Factory Manuals..... From the Forums here....

I'm certain that is still available, but has anyone found this good stuff for the WD-73640 model?

As a (waiting for delivery) user..... I'd love to get more information about this product....

I've already downloaded every manual that is available from the MITS website for this product.... I'm looking for more info, like I got from this site on the WD-62525......

Anyone have any info?

Thanks Much!

Oh... Another question...
No-Where in the Basic or Supplemental manuals (That I have found yet)... Does it say what menu you go to to see the currently installed firmware version....

That info was published in User Manual of WD-62525, and I had a couple firmware updates to get all features operational (mainly Bug in digital audio output)....

Also, what firmware is presently current for this product, and now that I see it is download-able ----- but from where? (Have instructions on what to do, but it doesn't include where to go to get latest firmware for product)....

Thanks!!

UPDATE!!! Found download site at Mitsubishi Support..... and latest is V13.03

but still can't find info in manual about where to find existing firmware version in 73640.... ????

Hit the Menu button, when menu comes up, lower hand side of the menu panel, should be either 13.02 or 13.03.

Look above in this thread for the different menu's for geometry and other settings I posted.

Cool Beans.
