Just pulled the trigger on a 73740. Can't wait to get it and set it up!

Now to find some good 3D glasses. I am undecided between the DLP Link or IR versions. Is one better than the other?

Well, It looks like I just pulled the trigger on a 92840 today. Tough choice. We'll see what happens now. It is replacing a Toshiba 65HX81 because I cannot get the bulbs to keep the old guy running.

One of the biggest consumer complaints about active 3D was that most glasses have to match the TVs IR code, and each TV was different.

Several companies, including Mitsubishi got together to standardize the codes so one could take their glasses to a friend's house, and be able to watch 3D on the friend's TV.

BYOG (bring your own glasses) is better than each consumer having to invest in multiple sets for their home.

It's a good thing.

Can anyone confirm from personal use that these are the 3D glasses(Mitsubishi 3DG-X103 3D Shutter Glasses) that work with the internal emitter on the WD-73840 model? I dont want to buy the emitter and glasses set if the one in the tv already works. Thanks!

Well I pulled the trigger and ordered the 73840 from Cleveland Plasma last night. It was a tough choice with size but being that the basement area wasn't ideal in layout I decided the 82 was too big.

While setting up a Logitech Revue on my 73740, I was able to observe the geometry issue others have mentioned. Part of the Revue setup is to expand a rectangle to fill the screen, and the sides of the rectangle did not align with the edge of the screen. About 1/4" off as others have mentioned.

lbrande, keep us posted. You mentioned "tough choice", but I hope when it shows up it blows you away.

Will be *very* curious to hear about the brightness of the screen and how the upscaling processor does spreading a 1080p HD image across that and if it still looks sharp or has some softening at that size.

Here is an update. When the wife saw the TV in the store, prior to purchase, I was given an ultimatum. Rather than get a divorce over a TV, I downgraded to the 82840, and it will be delivered today at 6:00 PM. In this case, the best course of valor, was to compromise.

hahahah, well glad to hear you saved the marriage. Let us know how the 82" looks, I am real curious about scaling at those sizes and seeing if the Mits scaler is high quality and keeps sharp edges on an HD signal or if it's a bit too fuzzy.

I think the 82" is as big as I could go as well without needing to create a Match.com profile, so I'll be very interested in your opinions

My viewing distance is about 15 feet from the screen, so the 82", by some calculations is a hair too small, where the 92" would have been more appropriate. We shall see, since I need to find a location for my Legacy Audio Marquis center channel.

Thank you for the kind words. I wrote that up because there aren't a lot of people here with the 840 model TVs yet & to counter-balance the 'bad geometry' talk with an experience that some people are getting TVs with great geometry.

So if they use the Panasonic codes, Is it safe to assume that any pair of 2011 panny glasses work with the 840 series?

The tv showed up on time. The installers assembled the stand and set up the tv. I use HDMI for video only, and use digital for the sound through my Pre/Pro. Picture is awesome. I don't know how to post pics, or I'd have done that already. Now I guess I'll need some calibration specs to start improving the viewing experience. Any suggestions?

My 82-740 came in today. The tv is huge, and the picture looks great, except for one thing, bad geometry.

My directv menus drop about 3/4" on the right side. Movies that are letterboxed look slanted.

Also, Amazon was supposed to give me white glove delivery, but the truck showed up with one guy who said he would not take it up the stairs. So I had to slip the guy a twenty to help me carry it up to my living room.

All in all, not happy. Hopefully, this can be repaired without sending back, but we shall see what Amazon says.

khacken, I really sorry to hear that the bad geometry showed up after a crap delivery experience.

Please keep us posted on how Mits treats you through the warranty process and fixing/replacing the set or Amazon if you contact them about it.

From what I read bad geometry can be SOMEWHAT fixed with the menu setup but if it is off by 3/4", then it was probably caused by someone jarring the DLP too much.

I was considering the 82 also but with $$$ being tight, it was hard paying another $700+ for the 82 so I went with the 73.

I don't have an easy way to take pictures, but my TV looks a lot like the pictures already posted in the thread. I think you are going to be pleased with the picture & sound. Is yours coming with the wireless Polk subwoofer? That really adds some oomph to movies.

I've had my 82740 for about a week now. Love it. Picture looks great (especially after I exchanged old HDMI cables for the included high speed HDMI cables). Just watched Adventures of Robin Hood on Blu and the color was amazing. DVDs look good too. HD channels look great and standard def looks quite good too. The box the TV came in will take a looonngg time to get rid of in the curbside recycling can,

Strange question but should the box be stored in case you have to send it back due to warranty issues or does Mitsubishi just send out techs to the home?

If the latter, I would be stealthy and NOT let the box be noticeable on the street as that can invite thieves as they know you have a new big screen TV.

Your TV came with HDMI cables?

Was this a bundle or were they in the box?

My 73740 arrived on Friday, and the only things in the box were the TV and a bag with the manual, remote and batteries. (Unless I missed something. I had the delivery guy take the packaging back).

My so-called "white glove" delivery was a joke too (but mine was provided by Mitsubishi). Same situation as above - showed up with one guy, even though the work order showed 2-man white glove delivery. Apparently "white glove" means different things to different delivery companies.

I had help him move the TV to the basement, where it was left on the floor. He started walking out and I said "that's it? - you don't even open the box to make sure it isn't damaged?". He then begrudgingly cut the box open and let me inspect the TV. He didn't seem interested in all at lifting it another 2 feet to my stand and giving me a chance to plug it in. He also refused at first to remove the packaging debris and showed me different work orders that showed a check box for this option. He eventually agreed in a somewhat irritated manner to take the packaging.

I made sure to grab the bag with remote but I hope there wasn't something else in the pack that I missed!

There was only one item on the entire truck, so he didn't seem to be in a hurry to get to his next delivery. I plan to call Mits and complain at some point, but I haven't had the time or energy to do that yet.

I got my 82840 from Paul's TV in CA. The 2 men were very careful in setting the tv, making sure the cable box worked, and the BluRray player worked. I checked the alignment using the DirecTV channel as a guide, and I cannot measure any great misalignment. The delivery guys took all the packing materials away. All in all, a good experience.

lbrande, can you grab any pics with a person standing next to the TV? I am curious how big this looks compared to my 65" when people stand next to it.

I noticed when I play video games or watch a subtitled movie, I have a strong tendency to lean forward on my knees just to make the text easier to read and that is starting to get to me.

I am just curious if the 82" looks "really big" or if it blacks out the sun.

I am going to try to explain to my wife that the 92" will make the cats happy since they can watch National Geo from any location in the house without straining their eyes
