I preordered a new WD73742. It's not much more than the 740. I preordered it on Big River for $1485.00. Does anyone know what the difference is between the 2 are? Mitsubishi doesn't do a comparison on their site.

I understand that there is some new updated large tv stuff coming out.
Is that true? I have been looking at the 82 inch mit. tv..diamond series...WD-82840. Somewhere I saw a comment that a new model was soon coming out.

Any insights about this tv would be appreciated. I have a 7 year old 70" that has been hassle free. I replaced one bulb and it works....great!

I am sure that the 1080 p resolution will be much better than what I have now.

Thanks for your help.

The 2012 models are WD-82C12, WD-82642, WD-82742, and the soon to be released Diamond WD-82842. Learn more about them here http://www.mitsubishi-tv.com/ You can also still get a good deal on last year's WD-82840s while they last. Read this thread to learn more about that model.

I talked to a guy at Vann's today and he said the new 842 will have more download "stuff" available. Since I have satelite TV all of that is a mute issue.

If anyone finds out anything else about the newest models to come out I would appreciate any insight(s) you might give me. I hate to order one and find out that three days later a "much better set" hit the market.

...bought an 82" Mitsu 82740. 1st 2 days it ran perfectly - could only hear the fan if you stuck your ear up to the back...totally normal. Day 3, however, started emitting a low buzzing noise from front & back of TV equally. Volume up or down did not affect the noise.

So I called Mitsu to tell them the problem. They told me it was "Normal fan noise". I asked them if it was normal why didn't I hear it the first 2 days. He said I need to give the TV some rest in between viewings. So, I said it started buzzing when I turned it on 1st thing in the morning day 3. So, then he said that fan noise will dissipate in time, but that it is normal.

3 days later, nothing has dissipated. So, I'm asking you here if this is normal? When I turn the TV off the buzzing noise remains for about 30 seconds. Then the buzzing noise turns off and the normal fan cooling noise (that I heard the first 2 days) comes on for about a minute.

I'm fine with that normal fan noise. But the buzzing sound is really annoying. I have to turn the TV up loud to drown it out, but I don't necessarily like having the TV that loud under normal circumstances. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Nate

I wonder if it's the newer models. My 10 yr old doesn't make noise either. Just wondering if this is common in the newer Mitsubishi's - the 82740 model to be exact. Everything else on the TV is great - but if I can't enjoy it over the low buzzing (sounds a little like speaker feedback but I know it's not the speakers), then what's the point?

I have the 73740, and the fan noise that remains until bulb cool down is the ONLY noise I can hear, and it is very quiet. I have to put my ear right up there to hear it. So my guess is that your color wheel is buzzing, and that is not normal.

Same here, I have the 82740 and I only hear the fan when the TV is first turned off in order to cool. There might be something wrong if you hear a buzzing all the time?

That's what I'm thinking. The buzzing is on all the time when the TV is on. When I first turn it off, it still buzzes for like 30 seconds. Then the buzzing goes away and all I hear is the faint sound of the fan (which is what I would expect) for about a minute.

Mitsubishi just pretty much blew me off when I talked to them yesterday, so I almost don't know where to go from here. I don't want to be stuck with a defective TV - but when I talked with Paul's TV, they told me to contact Mitsubishi first. Feeling like I'm getting the run around now.

And now, the picture has started shaking slightly up & down. I turned the TV off and back on, and the shaking went away. Is it possible that this is related to the buzzing/feedback type noise and that something is about to fail? I've only had this TV 5 days now.

Don't know but you have two choices, you can either send it back (since it's only 5 days old) or have a technician come and see it under warranty. I've had problems with Mitsubishi in the past but as long as I'm insistent, they have always repaired and even replaced a TV (although I paid a small amount for the new one 7 years later).

for the 740 and 840 Series models with internal IR emitters, the X-103 are already compatible. For the X-103 Universal models, program the glasses for Panasonic (#4). for the 3DG-X103, they will automatically sync.

So if I can get an 82740 that actually works properly, I won't need to get an emitter - just buy the glasses, correct?

So, Paul's TV gave me the option of a refund, sending out a replacement, or having Mitsubishi come out to fix the problem (Paul's TV guy said it sounds like a defective color wheel).

I opted for the replacement. I am leery of "fixing" a brand new TV that already has a problem. And, I love the TV (minus the buzzing sound), so I don't necessarily want a refund.

Is this what you guys would do? I'm a little nervous that I'll get another defective TV, but Paul's has been pretty good so I'm hopeful.

The guy at Paul's TV was cool. He said I can swap for another 82740, or he could try to give me a really good deal on an 82840. I guess it's their "diamond" series. Does anyone know if it is worth the extra bit of money to upgrade from 82740 to 82840? He says picture and sound are a bit better, but he's a salesman of course. Anyone have any thoughts on it?

The Diamond series have the 5 or 6 speakers built into the set but it wouldn't do me any good since I connect to an AVR anyway. The Diamonds also have the Clear contrast screens but I've never seen them and a few people complain because they have a lot of glare in daylight conditions.

I have the 840 and the clear contrast screen is one awesome picture. I had mine calibrated by a pro and it was worth the $$$$. The pro said that he has yet to see any set from the factory with the proper calibration. Here is a thread about customer reports on calibration http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=712929.
