Enjoyed 10 years of awesome HD on this 73-inch triple 9"-gun monster, but now it appears to be dead. Local reputable TV tech diagnosed leakage from one of the tubes has destroyed components on the main board below. He said it's not repairable. Has anyone experienced this and is it fatal?

You need to post on the Don't Dump Your CRT RPTV thread (it's right there at or near the top of the RP forum.) Mr. Bob is a real expert on these sets, his knowledge exceeding local techs.

I have a 65 inch with the same 9 inch tubes. Glorious!

Don't throw in the towel without communicating with Mr. Bob.

Thanks I will do that. I agree the picture with these tubes has been incredibly good, especially for a screen of that size.

The thing is, these 9 inch CRT RPTVs are real gems, and ones maintained well are few and far between. Keep in mind that when these bright cathodes wear out they're still replaceable.

The color depth gives the picture a real palpability, and whites and blacks are great.

So fixing the thing is the rational thing to do!
