All,

My 9 year old Hitachi 65X500 finally broke down.

I decided to replace it with either the WD-82742 or WD-82842.

From what I can gather the 842 adds the following to the 742:

. Center Channel Mode -- N/A for me(I have a sound system hooked up to the TV).
. 16 Speakers built in -- -- N/A for me(I have a sound system hooked up to the TV).
. Perfect Color and Perfect Tint -- Not sure what this is. Does this really improve the picture over the 742?
. Full HD 3D Glasses Compatible -- OK...This I would like this feature)
. ISF Advanced Video Adjustments -- I guess this is useful I get the set professionally calibrated.

Any thoughts or insight(especially on the perfect color/tint) would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

The Perfect Tint / Perfect Color allows you to tweak color and tint for each primary and secondary color individually. This is very helpful when using a consumer calibration disc like Disney's WOW, Digital Video Essentials, Spears and Munsil, AVIA, etc. It takes a lot of trial and error experimentation, but can work well.

Also keep in mind that the 842 series built in 3D glasses emitter is RF (Bluetooth), not IR (infrared). If you use infrared glasses, you will need an IR emitter (which will plug into the back of the set).
