I have noticed that when I turn on my WD-73640 73″ 3D Home Cinema DPL TV, there is a short/quick like squeaking sound.
No other issues that I noticed, but warranty is up end of this November 2012. Should I be worried and have it serviced?
Only paid $700 for it, so got a good deal, but still... would like it to last awhile. Viewing time on T.V is low.

Can you please describe the noise in a bit more detail?

Does it happen every single time you turn on the TV? How long does the sound last? Does it sound exactly the same every time? Can you pinpoint more or less where the sound is coming from? How long has this been going on?

Thanks.

Hi,

"Does it happen every single time you turn on the TV?"
Yes, I believe so.

"How long does the sound last?"
It's short, less then a second.

"Does it sound exactly the same every time?"
Pretty much, yes.

"Can you pinpoint more or less where the sound is coming from?"
I will try.

"How long has this been going on?"
I do not recall having that noise the first time I turned it on.
And the T.V hasn't been used extensively (was purchased Black Friday 2011).
I would say a few months after light use.

I have that same exact set and have had it as long as you've had yours. Also paid the same price. I'm guessing you must have gotten that awesome deal from BB that lasted only a couple of hours or so back on or around thanks giving huh? biggrin.gif

Suffice it to say my TV has been completely problem free so far at least. I'm a regular on these forums and have not encountered anyone here who has the same problem you do so I'm sorry I don't have anything more encouraging to tell you. I know I would definitely be worried about this problem you're having though. Hopefully getting an idea of where the sound originates from will give some of the more knowledgable types here an idea of what it could be.

It sounds like the TV works just fine otherwise aside from this weird noise?

Yes, it was the very same deal! =D

Just turned the T.V on after not using it for a weeks and still heard the noise. Not really knowing how a DLP works here, but best I can tell the noise is produced when the screen first turns on. So when the screen goes from full black (off) to light black (on). I.E when the bulb/projector (whatever) first turns on and produces light on the T.V Screen. Does that help?

And yes, I haven't noticed any other issues other then this odd noise.

There are several fans and a color wheel that need to go from stop to spinning when you turn on the TV. Obviously they cannot go to full spin speed, they need to speed up. If the sound you hear is something like “whirl” sound, it is possible it is normal, just one or more of these spinning devices coming up to speed. I hear a slight “whirl” sound when I turn on my TVs. Always have and one of them is over 4 years old.
