I thought I read somewhere on the net that it's refundable if not used.

I have tried this too. Check out this thread from the DVD player area, you can see that the player is not very impressive. (I had no issues though with the picture being sent properly over the HDMI, just plug it in and off you go)

PARTS PROBLEM

I have to wait another several weeks for my 585 (black 61"). Supposedly JVC sent out an announcement to dealers yesterday, Sept. 27th. Has anybody else heard that?

My dealer is going to loan my the 50+" until it comes in, which is OK, but I was surprised to hear about the big delay.

What did the announcement say? I'm afraid I'll be waiting that long too unless I decide to go with another set...

I wonder if I can convince my dealer to loan me another set...

I finally heard from my dealer yesterday and my set it IN! I get the last one from the current shipment because someone ahead of me moved up to the big 'un. I'll probably go get her on Sunday (don't take posession of the new house until Friday) so it will be in place when Comcast sets up the cable and HD box on Monday. Oh...I ordered mine back in early August (a 585 from Video Only).

How is that a troll? If I bought a BMW I wouldn't have much money left for a JVC DILA, if you do know how expensive the 330CICs are.

You conveniently left out the first paragraph of the CNet review, which reads as follows:

Editor's note: JVC has told CNET that the sample HD-52Z575 sent for review is not representative of current models. Until CNET receives a replacement sample for evaluation and we can update this review, the original will remain here for reference. Stay tuned.

Why did you do that?

I have been lurking on this forum for about 2 months. I appreciate all the information I was able to glean from this forum. I finally took the plunge and purchased the 52Z585 and stand from Bay Bloor Radio and they are to be delivered next Thursday. I am aware of what I should watch for when the set arrives. I have two questions that I haven't been able to find answers to.

1. I have the old Video Essentials disc that I used to calibrate my first generation Wega XBR. Would it be good enough to calibrate sharpness, brightness and colour on my new set or should I be investing in the new disc. If I need a new disc should I get the VE or the Avia or do I need both. If I need both could someone explain why.

2. I am going to be getting my HD signal from Rogers cable in Toronto and the cable box uses component to provide the HD signal. I also own a DVD player and a DVD recorder. I won't be able to connect both to the TV by component unless I purchase a component switch. As I understand it if I use S Video to connect one of these components I will not be able to use the progressive scan in the DVD player or recorder. I was looking at the Audio Authority component switch and would appreciate any comments on this switch. The salesman at Bay Bloor suggested that I hold off buying the switch and indicated that I may be just as happy feeding it a de-interlaced signal and letting the TV do the conversion. He suggested that I try this for a couple of weeks before investing in a switch. Is that good advice?

Thanks for your help.

Do a search for Audio Authority on here ... there are comments by others. I found it very cool small unit. but I did find with HD signal coming from my Adelphia HD PVR it dropped the quality very very slightly. it softened the image slightly but perceptable.

using for non-HD sources like the DVD and DVD-R I would think you would NOT notice any loss in quality. I run a DVD and XBOX thru the switch now. would have liked to run all 3 but the signal drop makes me run the PVR direct.

I would look at a DVD switch. progressive scan should be noticable.

Well I have had mine for about four days and it is driving me crazy not to have a good signal to try out. Our Adelphia HD-DVR arrives on Tuesday, thank goodness. SD is OK and DVD PQ is pretty good, but I have been watching too much HD at the strores and have been spoiled by it. Plus my DVD player isn't the best. I have been playing with the DVE disc and it has frustrated me quite a bit. I am hoping my calibration issues with it will be resolved when I get a new up converting DVD player. I had never considered getting a better quality DVD player because my old set didn't show the flaws like this one does. I would share my settings, but until I get a better DVD player, I don't think they mean anything.

I believe the Rogers SA3250 HD has DVI out. If you're renting an earlier model you can just trade it in for the 3250.

Thanks for the tip. I received the SA 3100 today which only has component out and no DVI out. I have sent an e mail to Rogers to find out where I can get the 3250. That should solve all my problems.

Any thoughts about using my old Video Essentials to calibrate this set?
