Hello,

I am moving into a new home in early November and need to pull the trigger at the latest by November 15th.

I love the 5674 but it doesnt seem to coming out? delays always scare me.

The Samsung 5685 & 5085 look awesome but are not very pratical, where do you put everything, no thanks.

I definately want a Samsung with the hd2+ or xhd3 technology. The Mitu Medallion series has gotten mixed reviews, not to interested.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Chris B

Samsung still says October release, but no date is specified. It always takes a little while for the sets to start showing up in retail stores. You should be OK, but there are no guarantees.

Noticed on Samsung's website that the 5674 and 4674 (HLP) are acknowledged in the product photos section. No product specs, release dates, or anything actually helpful yet though.

Any idea or theories as to how the picture quality will compare between the 5674 and 5685 as the light engine's are in different places in both sets? Is there an advantage of one over the other?

What makes you think the poster has a contact in the "production side" of Samsung which would be in Korea and possibly in Mexico?

Samsung, as far as I know, has no DLP TV "production side" in the US or Canada.

Samsung will be at CEDIA September 10th so that's where I would expect to find out what is going on with their HD2+ models.

Not me. I may go to the San Francisco Home Entertainment Expo in November depending on what is on display.

I'm waiting on the 4674, because it's narrow enough to fit into the 41" wide slot I have for a TV. The Panasonic has side speakers, so it's out. The 44" Zenith would fit, but I'm a bit concerned about the brightness, since the TV will be going into a fairly bright living room with a large picture window to the viewer's left.

There aren't many opinions that can be stated without qualification, but here is one. :)

"No it's not." ;)

An Internet merchant's claim to have a product has no validity until they can actually deliver.

Anyone notice the picture on Samsungs website looks like the Old Tantus model? That'd be awesome if that is the case. It is a different pic than the HLN model FWIW.

I have spoken with several online retailers that claim they have the 74 series sets. All of them are in Brooklyn; none of them will let you pick it up. None will provide a serial number of the set. All of them try to talk you into another brand of DLP. see a pattern here?

I just went to the TV page at Samsung's USA site.

http://www.samsungusa.com/cgi-bin/na...HLN567WX%2fXAA

When I pull down the list of TV models there are HLN sets, HLPxx63 sets, and HLPxx85 sets. Are you sure you are at "samsungusa" and not their international "samsung" site?

My guess is that the HLPxx74 sets will look very much like the HLN467 and HLN567 just as the HLPxx63 sets look a lot like the other HLN sets.

If you have found a picture of a HLP5674 please post it. :)

I don't think Samsung has set an MSRP publicly yet. My guess is that the first time they might do it is at CEDIA Sept. 10th or so.

You can find the picture on the Products page within the Press Center area of the samsungusa website. Go to http://www.http://www.samsungusa.com...otos_index.jsp
then choose TV from the drop-down box on the right. The 5674W and 4674W pictures are maybe a third of the way down the screen of pictures, to the righthand side.

I believe the link you were going for was this

http://www.samsungusa.com/cgi-bin/na...otos_index.jsp

Then click to go to the TV section, and the 74 series TVs are there

CCourtney

PS: I Reformated the TIF file of the 4674 and posted it here if you don't want to dig throught the link or have problems viewing the TIF file.

A lot of misinformation here, but one thing is certain - if the 74's are going to be available in October, they would be in production now. They would need to be shipped overseas in a couple of weeks. So, it shouldn't be hard for someone from Samsung to tell us if they are being produced or not. At this point, it should be factual and not theory.

I hope Samsung is able to definitively answer this at CEDIA. I know a lot of folks worship Steve Panosian and other marketing shills around here like they are gods, but they provide little, if any, useful information. All Steve has done so far is kept people hanging on in the hopes that they don't buy a Mitsubishi, Toshiba, etc. After CEDIA, the gig is up.

Mistubishi is offering no payments, no interest for 2 years on all DLP's. I hope for Samsung's sake they have an answer.

Thanks Scott. Your link didn't work for me but I found the HLPxx74 pictures through the Press Center.

Thanks CCourtney. Your link to Samsung didn't work for me either but the link to the Press Center photo did.

The picture that Samsung used looks exactly like some photos I have of the HLNxx7 models from early 2003. The differences between the non-Tantus HLNxx7 sets and the HLPxx63 sets are small but easy to see. I expect a similar amount of small differences between the HLN Tantus models and the HLPxx74 sets. Based on that expectation I think it's possible that Samsung is using a HLN467 photo on their Press Center page.

When you get some spare time why don't you let us know what you really think of Samsung. :)

It would be nice to know who the Mitsubishi "marketing shills" are so we can thank them for taking the trouble to keep us informed. While you are at it include Toshiba, Sony, Panasonic, Hitachi, Optoma, Loewe and LG. I would like to thank all of them for their contributions to our forums.
