I have had to replace the bulb once, color wheel once, and bulb cooling fan once, in that order. Bulb went out at 12,xxx hours so not too bad at all since it's probably at 17,xxx now. However, the analog board has nrn going out for a long time and now the TV is retired due to digital board issues. Replacement LG LED TV is fantastic.

12k for the lamp is a excellent count.

Anyone else with issues with just the color wheel and fans? The reason for the specific question is a friend has a HLR4266 (the cheapo) and it sounds as it's the color wheel that is going. It's not the lamp fan for sure. I don't know how many other fans are on that chassis; one or two as i might be that, but I doubt it.

Hi,

I've had my HLR4267W for several years, have replaced the color wheel before and the lamp. Now, recently, the screen seems to go from normal brightness to slightly darker and back to normal darkness every few minutes. I have not timed the interval between but I have a feeling it is becoming a little more frequent.

Is this my light bulb going bad again or something else? Last time, I remember the screen was getting darker over time, but nothing like this. I just want to have an idea what could be wrong. If it is anything more than a light bulb, it may be time for a new TV.

Could be the ballast giving you trouble ...it powers the bulb.

Is there a way to know or tweak it to be sure? I am trying to decide if I fix the TV or get a new one. Ballast + new lamp and we maybe talking about near half the price of a new TV.

Only way I know is to replace one component first (bulb or ballast), then if you still have trouble replace the other.

I got lucky a few years ago and bought an identical TV online and I used it for my XBox. I've since replaced my main TV and both Samsungs are now in my XBox room. I'm saving one for parts. The ballast is going out on mine (already has a new bulb), but I haven't swapped it yet.

Hi, I just posted a new thread in this forum describing a display problem relative to a Samsung HLR4667W, perhaps some fellow HLRxx67W owners in this thread could have a look and see if it's a problem they've encountered or know of. Thanks a lot.

For a $500 (or so) LCD set? I'd stay with this even though it's only a 720p. wink.gif

After 7 years & 10 months and no repairs done, my HL-R6167W died yesterday. It started making a squealing noise and then noticed every thing/channel was B&W, so I assumed the color wheel died. There also has been a slight flickering of the brightness the past several months. It still has all the original parts, but decided that spending $275-$300 replacing the wheel, lamp & ballast on it was not worth it. Replaced it with a Samsung UN60F6350A, 60" LED Smart TV.

HD since Sept 2005

RIP

When ours ever goes we're going to need a new piece of furniture for the new one. That'll be an expensive hit.

But for now, ours looks great.

I replaced my color wheel myself and put a new lamp in at the same time. All for less than $200 and the TV looks fabulous! Pretty easy DIY fix.

For the first time ever, I looked into the service menu to see what the lamp hours was at before it goes to the dump next week. 8993 hours. It's always been in the lower level family room, where it 3-5 degrees cooler, and with the central A/C on in the hot/humid weather.

Update: I have a relative who is having his w/o basement finished off, and he's willing to pay for the color wheel if I put it in. So I guess it's not going to the dump after all.

After about 2 hours, I successfully replaced the color wheel. Wheel was 90% shattered. Still running the original lamp.

Thanks the OP that posted this: http://www.avsforum.com/t/1050735/detailed-guide-to-replacing-the-color-wheel-in-a-samsung-hl-r6168w-w-photos

I'll be retiring our 42" soon. $389 for an LED solution.

Anyone interested in this one?

I have my original lamp in a box still with only 3K hours I think, and the one I replaced it with is still good, too.

I assume the color wheel just went. Horrible loud humming sound now and the colors are off.

It'll be a good parts-machine, but Baltimore is a little out of my range.

Bump for this thread!

in need of assistance for a HLR4667W TV. I have replaced both lamp and color wheel and the TV is making a strange high pitched noise and progresses to a low pitch. Much like an 8bit video game sound of a bomb dropping. Anyone here have that issue?

Hoping this thread returns from the Dead!

Thank you all for your help.

Not sure, as mine still runs quiet. Is it coming from the back or from the speakers? If you run it with the back off and listen carefully you might be able to narrow down the source.

Thank you for your reply,

I have run the TV with the back cover off and it sounds like its coming from the ColorWheel. Thats the reason why I replaced the colorwheel in the first place.

We bought a brand new colorwheel and a brand new lamp, both replaced and it still makes the noise. I'll try to get a recording up to give you guys an illustration.

Cheers!
