FYI, I don't work for Costco either.

I think the only reason the Costco name came up was, because as far as I know, it's the only place you can see this particular model at this time. I just posted what I saw because I thought maybe some other people were in the "I want to buy a 60"+ TV" group and are comparing similarly priced models (HLS 87/88, sxrd, hp, etc) and haven't even had a chance to see the HLS6767w set in person. So I really don't understand all of the negative comments from reincarnate.

okaaayyy, here's my update: as noted there is a floor model in NH, but no discount, and being unboxed I don't feel good about putting it in the back of a truck, especially since it looks like rain!! All other MA stores don't even show an est. arrival date yet so I'll have to keep checking in. Can anyone post pics in the meantime so I can at least DREAM of what one looks like!! haha!! Oh, and since its Costco, if there is an issue, do they send out techs, or do I have to keep finding a way to lug this back there (AND what if its out of stock, do I wait all over again?)?

I am pretty sure there is a 1 year in-home warranty (will verify when I get home). If you do have a problem after 1 year, you can just return it for the full purchase price. They will give you cash and you can get whatever tv you like at that point.

Does anyone that has purchased this set have a problem with pincushioning? Could you please check some 4:3 content and find out. I am trying to see if mine is bad enough to return the set for a new one.

Thanks

Nope, this darn thread provoked a more serious response. For a tad more I ordered a HL-S7178W from OneCall.

I think 3699 people have asked for the price to be Pm'd to them. I know I was one of those 3699.

edit: amt of people asking for a pm per post 107

hckyplyr, aren't there more like 3699 requests? I could've sworn I counted 3699, not 3599. Anyone verify this for me?

I have to admit I'm a little concerned that there hasn't been much discussion from those that already purchased one, about the unbelievable picture or features, etc. I'm on the fence since I've yet to view one here in MA. as they haven't arrived, and the HP deal is only for a few more days, plus later build XBRs are avail. So where are all the "you gotta see how sweet this set looks" or "wait til you watch HD/CDs on this" ?? For the price/HQ/features is this a serious contender or is there still alot of wait and see?

Did you reach a conclusion on the pincushioning? I saw a set at Costco today, running a looped feed. HD looked sharp, but there was a brief bit of 4:3 image of a Costco commercial that looked a little pincushioned (bowed inward, in this case.)

But presumably it wasn't changing formats on the fly, so that would indicate all content is a little bowed?

They had two in boxes, I'm really on the fence whether to go rent a truck and go get one.

If I decide to pull the trigger, anyone know if you can call a Costco and ask them to hold something for you? If so, who do you ask to talk to? Thanks!

Does the HL-S7178 have all the features of the HL-S6188? It looks like it to me from reading the specs. There must be a reason it is a '78 series vs '88 series.

It is in on older series case. It appears to have the same case the HL-R7178 had, but with a black speaker grille rather than a silver one.

So the 6767 and the 7178 are both in last years cases but with this years technology?

If true I wonder why they would do that?

Cost, perhaps the 71" does not sell at a high enough volume to warrant a new case?

Greetings,
If in fact it is true, it could simply be a matter of product differentiation as well as the production cost.
This would allow Samsung the ability to sell multiple retailers in a market without having to distribute the same goods to all of them.
In this fashion none of the competing retailers could be comparison shopped by the consumer.
Then again, maybe not...
YMMV,
b.

For those asking for a PM, please look at post 107.

As far as the pincushioning, I think I can live with the little bit that is present on my set. It really is only visible on 4:3 content.
