Do you know where a Sony 2006 KDS-(XX)A2000 SXRD is on display? If so, please list the store and location information. As per the forum rules, please don't list pricing information. Thanks!

Sets hit today. But not enough to dedicate one for display. One sold as it was being off loaded from the truck. The others will all sell tomorrow.

I just called Crutchfield (they have two B&M stores in VA), and they said that they probably would not display the 60" due to a limitation in floor space, but they would probably display the 50" when it comes in.

I went into Belmont TV in Arlington, Virginia last week to check out a few things. My main focus was to ask about the arrival of the Sony 55" A2000 SXRD TV. A salesman took down my number and told me that he would give me a call when they came in.

To my surprise, the salesman called me yesterday to inform me that the store had just got a shipment of the 60" A2000 sets. I asked if they had put a display model on the floor and he said "YES"! Unfortunately, I was at work when he called, so I could not get to the store before they closed.

My main mission is to go to the store and check out the set today. I'll do my best to look for some of the things that kept me from pulling the trigger on the XBR1 (besides those awful dumbo ears). In other words, I will be looking for the green blob! LOL!

I really want the 55A2000 because of space reasons. But if Belmont makes me an offer that I can't refuse, then the 60" might be coming home with me. LOL!

Good luck in getting yours!

Make Sure you eat the free cookies (over by the mini-Sony Style Store). And to think that just 1 month ago the ABT Sony guy was telling me they wouldn't have any new models in before the end of July. I am going to try and get there myself today or tomorrow (it's about 25 miles from me). If only we could check out test patterns there.

I just got back from Abt; they did not have an A2000 on the floor when I got there. They were nice enough to get one out on the floor when I asked. I'm not sure if it's still setup, so you may need to ask if you go. See the owners thread for my impressions.

Let me clarify that it is not still set up. They gave me some line about probably next week..... Save yourself a wasted drive, and call before you go.

I went to Belmont TV in Virginia yesterday to check out the 60" A2000.

Let me say this as plainly as I can... This set is "awesome"! With an HD-DVD player this is... LOL! Belmont TV had the 60" set up with the Toshiba HD-DVD A1 player. The picture was absolutely stunning. No green blobs, not motion blur, no nothing! Just pure, video nirvana. :-D

After I played with the settings for a few minutes and took the TV out of the Vivid mode, I dialed in a picture that was so good, a guy came in off of the street and purchased one on the spot! (Seriously, I did notice a U-Haul van in the parking lot when I left, so I think my tweaking actually didn't do "that" much for him. LOL! )

The picture on the set can be as good as it gets for now. HD-DVD looked fantastic. When the signal was switched to a DBS feed, everything snapped back to the "real world" and I stopped drooling and started to "evaluate" the set. My initial reaction was that I could honestly live with the set with "that" inferior TV signal. I looked for and did not see any Green Blobs. (YES!) I tried my best to look for any anomalies and artifacts, but nothing of the sort jumped out at me. (Yeah boy!) I tried my best to make sense of all of the nonsense that went on in the other thread about the DRC version of this set when nobody owned one. LOL! There were no "purple" blacks and no "greenish" whites. And I also looked for any forms of SSE that I could find. Not to say that it was nonexistent, but I sure didn't see it. (Wahoo!)

The 60" A2000 literally left me with the feeling of "Garbage In - Garbage Out". In my mind that's one of the highest compliments that I can give a TV set. It's features are that good. Feed this thing a pristine signal and you will probably never leave your living room for a while. Feed the set a bad signal, and you will want to beat up your cable guy on sight.

Needless to say that in my opinion, the picture quality on the 60" A2000 equals or slightly betters the XBR1 series. Now, I am not saying that owners of a good XBR1 set should run out and exchange their sets right now, but if you are a victim of the green blobs, you should strongly consider it.

Unfortunately for me, I am waiting for the 55" A2000, which Belmont says will be in their store in about two weeks. But if I were in the market for the 60 inch, I would have bought one on the spot. Just like the guy with the U-Haul did!

Peace!

Talked to my guy at Ken Crane's in LA. He said they would probably come in mid-August sometime. KC has inventory around August 1 and doesn't really want stuff showing up during that time. Basically said that a whole raft of stuff was showing up in the second and third weeks of August, but didn't have details.

They *did* have the Pioneer FHD1 on display, showing a 1080p demo disk off of BluRay. Oh. My. God. Ten grand list though.

talked to my guy at PCR from whom i plan to buy a 55" set when they come out.

he told me this afternoon that he had recently spoken with his sony rep and the rep told him that, due to competitive pricing pressures, sony will be lowering the list price on the sxrd line (maybe the whole product line??) by the end of july....no details yet on any price specifics but he said the price reductions would certainly be in place before the 55" sets come out next month.

Rob,

I stopped by Belmont (on King St.) this afternoon to check out the A2000 as well and left with a different impression. I'm certainly not a videophile by any stretch of the imagination (all I know is what my eyes like), and I thought the JVC to the left of it looked better on all feeds. In fact, just to show you what a complete noob I am, I actually thought the 60" SXRD I saw at the Tyson's CC had a better picture than the A2000. I told the guys there I wish they had an SXRD next to the A2000 so that we could easily do a side-by-side comparison, but they just scoffed at me. What a crazy notion, eh?

In any event, I spoke with Jeff; are you still trying to pursue a GB for these things? I might still consider the 55", but that's got to be the smallest 60" TV I've ever seen!

Does Ken Cranes have the Samsung 1080p DLP's? I would really like to do a side by side comparison with these two sets, and Ken Cranes will be much more likely to have these set up at least semi-correctly than the horrible BB demo that I just had.

Big Screen Store in Annapolis has one on display. Spent almost an hour Saturday and Sunday messing with it. They even let me play a few DVD's. Very nice set. However, I'm buying the Mits 65732 which comes out next month. The Mits is bigger, cheaper and to my eyes the picture was equal to better than the A2000.

I stopped by ABt yesterday (Sunday) and saw the A2000 sitting on a utility cart. It does indeed have a comparable picture to the XBR1 which was sitting a few feet away. They wouldn't leave it out permanately though as I was told that, "It would take away sales from the XBR1 which they are trying to sell as many as possible while they can." A small crowd gathered and then one ABt guy said, "I think we should put it away now."

I thought Rob was thinking about organizing a GB for the new A2000 series (shouldn't matter what size, as I would think Belmont would be interested in moving sets, whether they're 50, 55 or 60 inches), but if he's no longer interested, I certainly am.

I guess I'd like to get Belmont to match J&R's price. We'll save on shipping, but have to deal with taxes, so it'll be a wash, but at least we'll have a local reputable dealer for any post-purchase issues.

Thoughts? Can we get 10 or more committed to purchasing in the Aug timeframe, or are we thinking later in the year? Personally, I'm leaning toward holding off until Fall, as I think we'll see some additional discounting and I also want to hear from the early adopters if this set is all it's cracked up to be, try to prevent any issues that folks might start identifying after a month or two of ownership, etc.

It seems like all the stores that actually have sets on hand so far are east of the Mississippi. Has anyone in the western US seen one in the wild yet?
