I own a KDS-55a2000. When I turn on my TV, it stays on for about 30-90 secs. then shuts off. My LED blinks 9 times, then repeats. The service manual tells me it's: DEVICE ERROR - Bus decoders, temp. sensors (then lists 4 IC chips). Some tell me it's prob. a fan that's not working. I have googled this problem to death, and it seems nobody has had this and nobody knows what to do. I am begging for ANY helpful info. Please help a fellow KDS owner! Thanks...Bobby

Call Sony Technical Support at the toll free number listed in your KDS55A2000 owners' manual. They should be able to tell you exactly what is wrong. It could be something as simple as a bulb that needs replacement.

Any HTPC users here? I'm experiencing crushed blacks unless I turn the brightness way up which doesn't help the cause any. I've tried input and output RGB levels of 16-235 and 0-255 in ffdshow, but the problem is the same with both. Any ideas?

I have a problem with my set. Closeups of faces looks amazing. but when it's far images look rather soft or pixelated. Football players look pixelated at the line of scrimage. I have never seen that before, but if I had to guess I would hazard that the logic board or one of the digital signal processing chips on the main board is failing.

My A2000 with a new light engine, just developed a new problem. Sometimes, when the set is turned on, I don't get a picture, instead I get a series of bright lines (about 6 vertical lines of decreasing intensity near the left side of the screen). The sound works fine.

Under my extended Sony warranty the Sony tech will be here today to check this out.:

ya, that sounds major, did they repair it? If so what was replaced?

I love the picture from the SXRD but the reliability... not so good.

I just need it to last long enough that I can buy a 60" OLED to replace it for the same cost. 10 years should be about right.

Well the tech arrived yesterday and scratched his head; first time he had seen such white stripes. He proceeded to take apart the rear of the set and reset all the connectors on the bet that one had come lose during the light engine replacement.

Upon reboot the picture was better than ever. We were both glad that I would not have to wait a few weeks for a replacement part.

I replaced the bulb a few days ago on my KDS-50A2000. Before resetting the bulb timer to 0, I went into the service menu to see how many hours I had gotten out of the old bulb. Unfortunately, as careful as I was to only press "2" to scroll through the settings, I accidentally pressed "3" a few times, changing some settings. However, I did NOT press the sequence to save the revised settings - I just turned off the set. Could someone please confirm that this did not mess up my settings? The only change I have noticed is that my black level is a little bluish, especially around the edges. However, this edge b leed might be just a result of the new, brighter bulb.

As a possible check of this, could someone point me to a listing of the default service menu settings for the KDS-xxA2000 sets? I'd like to check those settings vs. the ones that I might have changed. (I have changed a few settings per CNET recommendations, but only through the normal user menus.)

I believe you are ok with what you did. You have to actually "write" the new settings in order for them to be saved. I don't know where you would find default settings for the set though.

What's going on here??? I go away for a few months and return to hear stories of how bad (in terms of reliability) our beloved A2000 / A2020's are?

Are all of these sets flawed? The optical block will go bad in all them early? Or is it a crap shoot, small percentage kind of thing?

Personally I am getting sick of everything sucking!

Stalwarts of quality and reliability seem to be dropping like flies. Dell used to mean something. Back in the mid 90's I would recommend them in a heartbeat. Now the only computer I will recommend is Apple.

Even Toyota is slipping... And I can verify that. My power door locks crapped out just a couple months after warranty expired. After quite a bit of hassle, they stepped up and paid for it.

And don't even get me started on appliances like vacuums, dish washers, and washing machines. All of the "name" brands from our parent's age now suck!

End of my rant...

So, I am not very pleased to see the same thing happen with my Sony TV that I paid over $2,000 for. Especially after retiring my Toshiba 50" after 10 years of superb, trouble-free service.

My son has a 60A2000 and has no problems. Based on his unit I bought a 60A2020 and the OB is bad. Being a retired technician, I'm not about to let some technician from some local TV store (just because they have a contract with Sony) change my OB and possibly make it or another part worse then it is now....and believe me, it can happen. Especially given the fact that they haven't even corrected the original OB problem. Some people are on their second and third OB's according to this thread.

All I can say is "DON'T CRY FOR SONY ARGENTINA!" Their position is "WE TOOK YOUR MONEY, NOW KEEP YOUR DISTANCE".

If you were to see value they claim to U.S. Customs of some of the items they import to this country, you would think it must just be a part from the unit it's so low compared to what they sell for. So don't get too sympathetic.

RB, in general that tends to be true, but if you look through this thread you will see many people (myself included) saying many positive things about the set.

However, this situation sounds very shady on Sony's part. Very conspiracy theory... If my set goes out and they refuse to correctly fix it (or replace it) I will be a one man anti-Sony wrecking crew. And I guarantee I will cost them many times more in lost sales than the replacement cost. That being said [Curb Your Enthusiasm anyone?], everything is ok at this point. I bought the set ~July 2007 and I have the 60A2020.

Is there a consensus on what settings produce the best results? I am tweaking my TV and really don't know what options I should turn off such as edge enhancer, etc... If someone can point me to recommendation I would love to hear them. Right now I am just running CNET settings with a few modifications.

He's not saying there is nothing wrong with the TVs, he's saying there is nothing wrong with HIS TV. I can say the same thing about my current set (55A2020) but I've owned a couple (50XBR1) that were bad and seen and read about many others that were bad also.

Well, mine has lasted 2.5 years and 8000 hours with no problems except some occassional flickering. I'll be changing the bulb this weekend so hopefully that won't trigger a downward spiral.

Sony will replace them for a lot less than 700-900 bucks, and I did feel getting 3 years of good use out of the tv was worth something. Since I had a place for a 52" TV the deal didn't seem that bad to me.

I knew going in I would have to replace a bulb...after 3 + years and one failed bulb I'm happy with my SXRD. At the time of purchase I believed it to be the best. I still enjoy it.
Put lots of hours on it. I won't replace this TV unless forced by some large $ failure!

Although I am pleased with my less than perfection 60A2000, we now spend most of our time viewing our new Panasonic 54G10 Plasma set that is as close to perfection video wise as any set I have seen. But the audio is third rate. Technology keeps moving on.

Is there any way to disable the front buttons on the tv and only use the remote? My 2 year old son likes to keep turning it on and off and I'm afraid he'll damage the tv.

Well my bulb finally went out on me on Christmas Night! It is funny because I knew it had to be coming soon. No signs of it going out that I noticed, but when the lady went to turn the T.V. on (KDS-50A2000), she said that a red light was flashing and she heard a sound. I was like...OH ^&%$!! So needless to say Saturday I ordered a bulb from digitaltvlamps.com. It will be here on Tuesday. I notice there are 2 manufacturers for lamps for this t.v. The XL-5200 is made by Osram and Phillips. Osram is the cheaper bulb, but I never go cheap, and went for the same bulb that came in my t.v. which was the Philips. Have not had any problems and that bulb did well for 3years. It only had about 5400 hours on it. The bulb will be hear tomorrow so it will be time to play and get everything adjusted again! Hopefully things go smoothly!
