The 2007 Toshiba 57HM167 and 65HM167 are due out soon according to Amazon and others. Toshiba so far is being quiet about this year's DLP's. Among the new features: 1080p in, 3 HDMI connections, and a black cabinet.

They showed the 57HM167 and the 65HM167 at CES without fanfare. No mention of MX models. Toshiba dropped its plasma line and seems to be emphasizing LCDs.

I was about to order a 62HM196 from Tiger,, but the one thing I did not like is the silver frame.
I know the MX is black,, but those currently run about $500.00 more.

Thus, this 65HM167 looks very interesting!! Anyone else have any news on it?

I did find one website that had a picture taken at an HDTV show. Looked great,, reminds you of the great looking Samsung DLP's.

Ps to see the picture,,, search Google for these keywords:

A dealer in Los Angeles indicated that these new models will be available for delivery in mid March. I am surprised that there is so little news on the web. True, the changes may be minimal, but usually there is some buzz when new models are about to be released.
Aside from cosmetic differences, is there any advantage is getting the more expensive "cinema series" over the HM line?

I sent an email to Toshiba asking when the new models would be available and what the specs were. They replied back, "Unfortunately, at this time, we do not have information on our upcoming line." I always wonder why companies are secretive in this manner since it affects sales. If you know when a model is going to be available, you might be willing to wait. If you don't know, you might buy another brand available at the time.

Well,, maybe the problem with releasing too much info is purely sales of the older model.

It appears this new model has 1080P input, (3 of them) better looking cabinet and face. A 3" bigger screen,,,, all for less money than the 62MX. And for nearly same price as 62HM.

Maybe this is why big online dealers are dumping the 62HM at discount prices. And big e-tailer's like Amazon stopped stocking the 62HM 3-4 weeks ago. (Only selling it through third parties)

I am going to wait for more info on this new set before buying....

True. Still, Toshiba put out a press release on their Regza LCDs listing features and future availability dates.

I updated the specs (found at Buy.com) in the first post. Interesting that Dynamic Contrast will have 4 settings. Previously, 4 settings were only available in the MX models. If Toshiba is no longer making the MX DLPs, it would be great if they transferred the MX features to the HMs.

It's the color management system of the mx that I really want. It seems that Toshiba would not do away with such a sophisticated feature, thus, I believe that there will be an MX series with this feature. Otherwise, it would be featured for the HM model, no?

Back in the early days, there were just HD demo loops, no programming. Now HD 3D, amazing!

Right, no mention of the MX's Colormaster in the specs for the new HMs. They apparently will have the black cabinet, dynamic contrast settings, and PC input of the 2006 MX. They apparently won't have CableCard and will have only 1 RF input. Maybe an MX version will have Colormaster, CableCard, and 2 RF inputs.

65HM167= Unit WHD 58 x 37 x 21.69
62HM196= Unit WHD 57.08" x 39.25" x 18.75"

Hmm, not crazy about that extra depth; but at least it is still better than my crt projection.

The HDMI inputs are 1.2. It does 1080p/60--I specifically asked if it is able to do 1080p/24 or a multiple of 24--it does not (but then again, none of the other new DLPs or LCOS sets did either).

Any word on a Cinema Series model? I just purchased a Sony v2500 (40" LCD) for a smaller room and I really like the picture. Will a DLP unit be as bright as the better LCDs that are out there?

Thank you in advance

No word yet on an MX model. Toshiba only had the two HM models at CES.

Some DLPs can be too bright, although maybe this depends on the light level in the room. I read in one review of a 2006 Toshiba that it was not as bright as other DLPs. The reviewer considered this to be good as it improved black levels and shadow detail, but was still plenty bright. Take a look at the DLPs and LCDs in a local shop to compare.

It's hard to say since the Toshiba isn't out yet. You can compare features or compare it to the current Toshiba 62 or 72 HM196 models. The new HM models should have a somewhat improved picture from the 14-bit processing (the HM196's had 12-bit) and the extra tweaking you can do with the 4 dynamic contrast settings.

Koan or anyone, Not really sure about some of the tech stuff. From just looking at the comparisons of features. Is their anything better/worse than the Mits 65732?

Tech Depot...Part of Office Depot has the set on preorder for $1,676.95 plus $72 shipping & tax. Which for me in NJ is $1,866. Not a bad price.

They didn't list 1080p for component like they did for HDMI, so I doubt we will see it. Go with the Samsung if you need it.

I haven't looked at the Mitsubishis, so can't advise you. You can get a better idea about the Mits by looking at the owners thread.

I would be happy with some more info. This is the only thing holding me off from getting the Mits 65732.
