Thanks. That's the same exact model I have, bought in May 2007.

I agree with you. Even when Sony knew that they hadn't corrected anything after the A2000's, they told the Court that they corrected the problem. Yet, they not only continued to use the same part number as the A2000s, they also used "rebuilt" OBs with the same number as replacements under warranty.

Anyone who's been stuck with a Sony SXRD has a right to be mad.

Of course I don't work for Sony. I've been an SXRD victim just like many others.
So, are you really a lawyer as you've claimed in the past because you sure don't act like one! I doubt that a real lawyer would say things like "despite all thjis evidence, the judge approved the settlement. he probably got a payoff from sony as well."

P.S. I could understand an angry layperson making such comments, but not a lawyer. Everyone is entitled to complain once in a while but you post the same crap day after day. Its just noise. If you're a lawyer then say so. This will enable readers to judge YOUR credibility (or not). Otherwise, you add nothing to the situation that splinke and a couple of others have been doing such a great job of documenting in a much more rational and helpful manner.

While I think Mr. Wally's remark ...."despite all this evidence, the judge approved the settlement. he probably got a payoff from Sony as well." is just frustration from something that's so incredulous it defies logic. However, things like that are CERTAINLY NOT unheard of, especially in New York.

Whether Mr. Wally is a lawyer or not shouldn't matter, since even lawyers can get mad and frustrated.

Seems to me that if we have lawyer(s) in the forum they should be trying to help, not get mad and frustrated and not be attacking Sony in every post. Splinke has done a great job of trying to explain things to those of us that aren't lawyers and keep us up to date. I doubt he's a lawyer himself and would probably welcome assistance from any resident lawyers. Oh, and for the record, I'm not rooting for Sony but I'm not going to relentlessly attack them either.

this man knows how new york works.

don't kid yourselves, it is not unheard of for judges to get payoffs. not saying it happened here, just that the possibility does cross the mind given the difficulty in reconciling the courts decision with the evidence presented.

attorneys always have to consider factors such as judges favoring certain other attorneys, judges hometowning non-local attorneys, and judges too lazy to do their homework to reach what should be a fairly simple, logical decision.

don't know what happended in this case, but the judge clearly got it wrong and did a disservice to all sxrd owners
.

i'm not posting here as a lawyer, but as an sxrd owner. if you want legal info
on your rights in a class action lawsuit, use splinke's website. he is far more knowledgeable about the law in this area than i. i am not a class action attorney and my practice doesn't involve consumer law. attorneys are not knowledgeable in every area of the law, but our practices focus on only a few areas where we can attain the necessary level of competency. you can be an engineer without knowing anything about writing code. same with
attorneys, we all have our areas of expertise.

everyone just thank splinke for helping us protect our rights, and let's quit
bickering with each other.

my apologies to waldorf if i offended. now can your be less critical of your fellow sxrd owners?

Calling out mr. w. does not constitute criticizing or attacking all SXRD owners.
I'm actually on the side of most SXRD owners but I just don't see what is to be gained by the daily complaining by the same people over and over again.
Uh, oh, I'm complaining about the complainers.

Put another way: SXRD threads = same sh!t, same people, different day!

Read all the posts for May 2010 on the lcd forum.

Not all that encouraging. Problems with clicking noises,
off angle viewing, poor sd performance, light creep
into the screen edge, color inaccuracy, and interconnectivity
issues with other a/v devices. Enough returns by buyers to
concern me.

Not a lot of feedback from former sxrd owners who have exchanged
their sets for these models. Those who have posted generally seem
pleased, but non-exchange owners have reported a disturbingly
high rate of returns.

A lot of people complain about sony quality. Sound familiar?

This is cause for concern for sxrd owners considering
exchanges for their defective sets. There is even some speculation
that due to manufacturing issues, sony has stopped production
of the 'nx' line. some say the ex 500 is superior to the 700.

Well last thing I want to do is exchange my existing problem plagued
sxrd, for a problem plagued sony led model. There is even some
speculation that sony is exchanging ex 700 models that have been
returned to sxrd owners.

Can people with exchanges or experience with sony led models
post their thoughts?

One thing really bothering me, is a lot of sony led owners are
returning these sets for samsung leds.

Unfortunately its not just Sony, the threads for Samsung, Toshiba, etc. are plagued with problems and complaints also. The public's desire for low priced everything results in a general degradation in quality. Its inherent in just about everything we buy nowadays ranging from furniture to computers to home theater to food and clothes. Obviously to get a flat screen TV for $1,000-2,000 something has to give...quailty. These sets are rushed to market with new features (such as 3-D) apparently without enough consideration for fixing the fundamental issues. With LCD TVs, clouding and flashlighting, etc. have been a problem for years.

Yeah, my one post in almost a month in this thread really is prolonging this discussion and starting a pissing match. You have what, 20 or so posts this week here telling people to shut up, grow up and complaining about people who are upset with Sony and their shady practices.

if you had to pay for parts repairs etc you might be able to get a better deal extended warranty and better set, i am reading the forums and most people think the ex500 is better than the 700 so i dont know if you should ask for the 700 , good luck

Update on the class action lawsuit against Sony on Q006, XBR2, A2000, A2020, and A3000 models

People have started receiving their Class Notices, and I urge you to opt out or object to the settlement prior to the July 23rd deadline. I have extensively updated my Class Action Lawsuits page, including links to important documents, as well as instructions and suggestions for opting out or objecting. This includes suggested topics for your statement of objection. Objections from people who have experienced multiple optical block failures would be particularly valuable, as Sony has claimed that failures of replacement optical blocks are only "stories of a handful of consumers" and that they are rare "anomalies" that are "not representative".

The current optical block warranty extension for A2020s expires at the end of this month. The proposed settlement extends the warranty for an additional six months (through December). Alternatively, if Sony fails to make parts available within 14 days of when you report your problem, they will pay you $200 (50"), $250 (55"), or $300 (60") for the depreciated value of your TV, and then you can make arrangements to throw it away.

There is no evidence that Sony has done anything to fix the optical block problems in the individual SXRD models in the Class Action since their original production, and many people are now reporting failure of their replacement optical blocks on AVS Forum and elsewhere. In fact, Sony explicitly states in the Class Action Notice that they do not make any guarantees on the efficacy of the repairs beyond the stated extended warranty or 90 days (whichever is longer).

There is a Fairness Hearing scheduled for August 13th. The more objections (and potentially opt outs) the judge sees, the more likely he will send the parties back to the negotiating table.

All California residents should opt out of this class action settlement in N.Y.

There are several class actions pending in San Diego county Superior Court
against Sony. California has some of the best consumer protection laws.

Since there is no real benefit for sxrd owners from the pending class action, why not opt out and not be bound, and wait and see what happens with the California litigation,

Just be sure you carefully read and comply with all the terms recited in paragraph 8 on page 8 of the link posting the terms of the proposed class action settlement to be sure you exclude yourself from the class.
