I'm getting ready to order the Samsung HL-S6187W from Amazon.com. I have couple questions.

1. If someone has recently ordered one from Amazon.com, can you tell me the build date on it? I don't want to get one that is older.

2. If the set is defective within 30 days, has anyone returned the TV to Amazon and what was the experience.

3. Should I not order this set because they are not being manufactured anymore?

I guess I'm thinking I will have problems, which I'm hoping is not the case at all. Just very nervous about ordering a DLP set online. I bought my last one at CC but their price is just rediculous on these. Thanks for any input.

Also, if I buy from Amazon should I get their extended warranty? If not, who does everyone recommend to purchase an extended warranty from? Thanks again.

I bought that TV via Amazon and am very happy with my choice. I ordered it in December and it had a September build date. Personally I tend to avoid extended warranties on a/v equipment and appliances.

We were worried just like you with buying a DLP online. I bought in November and the price is about the same. I dont know what my build date was, but the TV is awesome. The best 2k I have ever spent. I have posted a slight flaw I had with the TV, (small 2 inch shadow at the top), but Samsung came out and fixed within a week. IMO, this is still in the top 5 DLP TV's out there right now, if not the top 2. Buy the TV, you wont be sorry. BTW, we bought from Amazon, the only problem I had with this(even thought it was free shipping), they used some cheese dick shipping company that I had never heard of before. It got to Jacksonville within 3 days from ordering it, but because the company was so small, they said that they wouldnt deliver it to my side of town for another week. Anyways, me and a buddy went to the airport that night and brought it home.

Sometimes amazon may have the best price, but I'm a fan of buying locally if any issues ever arise.

I just got my 6187 this morning through Amazon. The build date February of '07. Good experience shipping and delivery.

Now, if I can just get rid of all these stupid standard definition sources.

Thanks for all the info and updates. I'm going to order the TV tonight from Amazon. What's the difference between the TV riding on a truck to BB/CC or to my house, right! I'll post the experience I have after it's delivered for future forum users/searches. Great info from everyone!

Oh, and I'm still trying to decide on the extended warranty. I know I'm not ordering the one Amazon offers.

I actually don't know the specifics nor do I think anything is wrong with earlier build dates, but when sifting thru the Samsung Owners forum before I purchase the TV I noticed a lot of talk about a December 11 firmware update. Here's a link where the discussion starts:

December Factory Firmware Update
