I have a LG rear projection tv, and have recently developed a problem with it. One day while watching tv, the picture just looked as if it had lost all the red color. It happened all at once, not gradual. It now appears as a crappy grayscale image, but with blue and yellow overtones.
It is a model number 52SX4D-UB
I have searched the internet and heard of something called "the blues" but no explanation of what it is or how to fix it. I read that LG was replacing sets because of the so called blues, but no way to tell if that is what happened to my set.

Any one have any ideas?

Please help a noob.

Well, called LG yesterday, first they asked for the model number of the tv... then they asked what kind of appliance it was... ... then asked if it was a plasma...next they said it sounds like the bulb... after I said isnt there only one bulb in a projection tv? they say oh yeah... I ask to talk to a more competetant person, at least this guy new it was a tv from the model number, then I get the same questions and get told its one of the bulbs, then he says that they really dont deal with the DLP's anymore only the plasmas.

Please help me.

Also as a note the tv menus are missing the red as well, so i dont think it has anything to do with the inputs, it is as if the tv is no longer capable of producing red color. Im thinking it could be the color wheel... but have no idea how to check.

Boy thats helpful... What do you mean its "in the mirrors"

Is it a problem with the mirrors?
I was under the impression that the bulb shines thru the color wheel and onto an array of very tiny mirrors, one mirror for each pixel. So your saying that all of the sudden all the mirrors are messed up?

This is odd since its a DLP, which uses a color wheel. That is why I assume you've received not replies. If you have any color you should have all colors. I'm not a TV tech but if its all inputs than the component cable is not the issue.

Its not the bulb. You either have light or not for the most part. My guess is a bad board in the TV.I doubt its anything we can help you out with here. I think a service call is needed.

As Barrybud said, there's really nothing anybody here is going to able to tell you that's helpful. I agree that it sounds like a bad board in the TV, which is going to require a service call from LG. Since you're probably out of warranty by now, hopefully you have an extended service plan or you might be shopping for a new TV!

It is probably a solder or defect in the video selection switch. That IC would output Y/Pr/Pb, so probably the Pr output is not working correctly.
An easy fix for a servicer.

The exact same thing just happened to my 52 inch LG DLP today.

Did anyone ever hear what the results were?
