So has anyone else had success on this problem with the above solution?

I am currently attempting to facilitate communication between Mitsubishi and Protech on the hum. So far...neither party is confirming the 'electrical tape' fix...and since Protech gets their information from Mitsubishi...it appears Mits doesn't know the fix exists.

To throw a monkey wrench into things...the 'No Problem' answer I had from RCWilley on exchanging the unit if problems weren't exactly true. Now RCWilley is sticking to their 14 Day return policy. If I want to exchange the set, I need to get Mitsubishi to approve the return so they credit RCWilley.

I had a conversation with level two tech support at Mits...finally. After 1:45 minutes on hold...

He said the electrical tape solution was for a thermal sensor that runs to the ballast and is for overheating issues. He will be facilitating contact between the service tech and their service center.

The thing is, should I have to call Mits to make that happen?

Alrighty, then!

Protech called me and said Mits posted a bulletin on the noise. That's the fix that everyone's been talking about....and they are scheduled to come in here tomorrow to fix!

Now, if they'll just do something about my geometry issues...and replace my screen I'll be happy!

Okay...

Electrical tape is in. The Ferrites are noise-less!

The only issue I have is with Geometry. I've tweaked it enough that it should be okay for viewing. I wish I could replace the screen...but does that entail the set going to the shop?

Well...I'll call customer service to see what they can do for me. Apparently I need their approval to get the screen replaced.

Press MENU + 2470

The number is on the bottom left corner. It is not the number of lamp hours, but the number of hour in use.

Does anyone have any remedial settings (brightness, contrast, etc. etc.) I can steal? I noticed someone in the 833 thread posted some - has anyone used those on a 733? Even if someone on this thread has just done some basics with a calibration disk, that would be helpful.

I just took delivery of the set on Sunday and believe it or not I've only found time for about 45 minutes with it. I'm also waiting on a DVI>HDMI cable before I can really play around with it hooked up to my Vista Media Center. I'll probably get it professionally calibrated eventually or go through a Video Essentials sometime, but just need something I can use in the meantime.

Others have also tried and liked the CNET settings (reviewing a 65734)

Note this was in a completely dark room, using HDMI and 1080i source (on 65734) -- YMMV

So THAT'S what people have been talking about with respect to the CNET settings...

Very cool - I'll start there and see where I get. I can't believe how incredibly bad the picture looked when I first turned it on and tuned to Sunday Night Football (HD) ... even with just a couple minor changes it was much better. Sad to think of how many people probably never even make obvious changes to their default settings...

You guys are not alone. My 73833 is just about worthless. Geometry so poor, visitors comment on it immediatly. Techs have came out 4 separate times, unable to resolve the issue at all. 1080P sources can not be adjusted for geometry, this is a serious problem. I decided to return the set, but the dealer Walt's TV decided to not allow that to happen. I reported the problem to Walt's TV within the first week of ownership. I aksed for an exchange, which they denied me. They offered me then a refund, minus 20% restocking fee, the website clearly states 15% on WORKING returns. Steve at Walt's then told me that he was going to resell my defective set as an open box sale item because he didnt feel anyone else would notice the geometry problems that he had never seen. Still hoping for an exchange from Mits.

If you contact Mits customer support, you can get them to replace the screen. They'll auhorize the dealer to replace it.

Also, I'll post my 733 settings when I get back home next week. I finally found great settings on NATURAL that looks pretty close to the BRILLIANT setting, but without the over saturation of cyan or yellow. 733 settings are harder because we don't have the Perfect Tint.

Also, I found I was able to tweak my geometry settings a bit to compensate for the bowing. You just adjust the corners off the bezel and it greatly improves everything. I still end up with some 4:3 issues, but its not terrible.

I actually like GAME to be a bit brighter so I can see more detail in the shadows. Helps a lot on HALO too!

The following settings are the best I have gotten. I like a high contrast and low brightness to get the darkest blacks possible. I also found that high contrast on this set also blends the different colors better...so blues aren't pushed out so much.

Also, after a long debate on Brilliant vs. Natural, I found these settings to be very close to brilliant, but without pushing the color out to far on Cyan, Blue...and sometimes Yellow. It looks really sharp.

This is all standard definition, by the way. Some DVDs look so incredible, it leaves me wondering exactly what HiDef will look like on this set.

I'll post some pictures eventually.

DVD Settings - Component Inputs - Standard Definition

Picture Mode - Natural
Contrast - 63
Brightness - 15
Color - 38
Tint - 31
Sharpness - 31
Color Temp - High

Pefect Color
Magenta - 29
Red - 32
Yellow - 30
Green - 31
Cyan - 27
Blue - 27

FYI,

For anyone looking for a deal:

73" on Amazon with matching base is only $2650 shipped!
65" on Amazon with matching base is around $1700 shipped!

Great prices right now.

Free shipping, no tax.

733 models.

I ordered the 73" to replace my old 65" CRT HDTV since it had some slight burn in thanks to the wife.....

I just really hope mine has no geometry issues....how many people have them anyway?

Please post your 733 settings too.

I asked this on another Mits thread, but no response...

Are there certain flash drives that are recommended for use with the Mitsubishi TVs?

I bought a 1GB stick (Dane-Elec) from Target but when I tried to play a photo slide show, it didn't work. It recognizes the input, but says that the files are either too big or they are not in jpeg format. These aren't big files and they are indeed in jpeg format.

I'm waiting for a response form Mitsubishi.

Anyone successfully view a slide show via the front USB? What type of memory stick are you using?

Thanks!

The Amazon deal at $1700 is actually better since the matching stand usually sells for around $400.

Plus, no lines to deal with on BF and free delivery!

Where do you see that the stand is included? That price is for the TV only, same goes for the 65" model

Wrong Snappy. I ordered it and it is free.

You may need to call to have them adjust it (they did with mine).

It says on their site:

Best Value

Buy Mitsubishi WD-73733 73" 1080p DLP HDTV and get Mitsubishi MB-73PB Matching Base for WD-73734/WD-73733 as a gift with purchase!

Total List Price: $3,798.99
Buy Together Today: $2,499.98
You Save: $1,299.01

This is for both of them.

Smokin' deal, just make sure you place the order with Amazon and not one of the other businesses like Electronis Expo.

WD-C657, exclusive to Costco, is not a 65734 nor 65733.

Details from Mitsu here: http://mitsubishitv.com/j/i/18326/WDC657.html?cid=5495

C657 does come with a stand, not exact color match (gray shade vs. black.) Last I've seen it there at $1,799 (TV + stand and their 2-yr warranty.)

I returned 3x C657's to Costco (100% of inventory they had) and then bought a 65734, a matching stand and 5-yr warranty from 1 call; shipped on a FedEx truck to the house. I recommend 1 call. Excellent service and they would price-match some of the vendors. Call them; I had zero sale pressure and had all my questions answered (was on phone with the guy for over 1 hr!). Bought on a Wed late, and was delivered on Fri. noon!
