I've got a one year old Philips 60PP9100D and prior to last night I would have an intermittent problem. When the TV is on the HDMI input the picture will blink parts of the screen until finally all I see is red & green dashes "raining" and a horizontal solid green line traveling down the screen.

In the past I have been able to fix by "wiggling" the hdmi cable going into the TV, but it won't fix this time.

Any ideas? Any suggestions of other places I can look for help?

First check the simple things:
All inputs?
Change the HDMI cable.
Hard reboot the HDMI source device with the Tv on.
Swap out the HDMI source device altogether.

Now, if you are sure it's the Tv, do you plan on fixing this yourself? It's a 2005'ish model, so is it under any kind of warranty or extended plan? Without a professional diagnosis, are you prepared to start replacing expensive circuit boards with the possibility it might not fix the problem? Are you good at soldering? Otherwise can you afford $100 for a real diagnosis?

Hammer, thanks for the reply. I'm in Vacaville, about 40 minutes west of you.

What I've done so far;
- Unplugged the TV (for about an hour) and while it was unplugged removed all cables connected to TV.
- no fix, disconnected above

- only attached my Dish 622 DVR via HDMI
-no fix, disconnected above

- only connected my upconverting DVD via HDMI
-no fix, disconnected above

- only connected my Dish 622 DVR via component cables
- no fix, disconnected above

- only connected my upconvert DVD via component cables
- no fix, disconnected above

None of the above solved the problem, I am still getting red & green dashes "raining" and a horizontal solid green line traveling down the screen.

After that above failure, I decided to go "old skool" and connect my 622 via RCA (red/yellow/white) cables, and low and behold I got a picture, but not HD.

Tonight, I'm going to try connecting HD antenna via coaxial cable (to see if I get OTA HD) and connecting DVD via s-video (no HD, just to see if it works)

Because the HD side (HDMI and component cables) is where the problem is isolated to I'm beginning to wonder if it is a board having to to with the HD.

Philips has already given me one new TV (JUly 2006) because of an unrelated problem, (input select button on the front of the TV broke and replacement button wasn't available). I called Philips yesterday and was told anything to do with the picture is still covered but parts & labor aren't?!?! No extended warranty. But they gave me a ref. # and a service center to contact. I've called them and they are coming out on Tuesday.

If the repair is not covered by warranty I plan on doing the repair myself. Yes, I can solder. Hopefully, the diagnosis will at least be covered.

Just in case I get in over my head can you recommend any service centers since we're semi-local to each other, if I'm not happy with the one coming out?

Thanks again

Hmm, strange statement. Anyways, from your symptoms it sounds like the small signal module needs replacing. Or maybe the small signal board, I always get those two confused. Should be less than $400 parts & labor.
