Sorry Spaz, I checked off the box and did not see a difference. I am not actually using the pc input, I am using a DVI to HDMI adapter. I could hook up my laptop or use a different cable on my HTPC tomorrow perhaps.

so, gotta love the fish views, but any torture tests for potential geometry problems would be appreciated...

Well, I used the THX Optomizer on the Incredibles disc and made a few adjustments, but I sure wouldnt call it a torture test. If I take a browser window and move it towards the left side or right side, it is not 100% vertical. It is good toward the bottom but has some issues towards the middle. If you have a specific test you would like me to run, please let me know and I will see if I can accommodate you. The issues are slight and not a real issue to me. The only time that I can notice them is if I specifically look for them. There is probably a SM option that can handle the slight misalignment.
From what I have seen, Insly has the only 55 and I have the only 60, but I am sure that will change in the next few days.

All I know is that "Meet Joe Black" looked amazing from my HD-A20 on my A3000. The fireworks scene was nearly surreal.

Can you tell us how long the TV takes to warm up to full brightness after turning it on?

Just a reminder that this is a technical forum.

Thanks

Thought I'd add my 2 cents. I've been a new owner since late yesterday after noon.

A short history:

Had a 60" for 10 years that died 3 weeks ago. Wanted plasma, but room is full of windows. Then wanted LCD, but 52" not big enough and couldn't afford larger. XBR 2's just didn't have the black level I liked. Came across the 2020 and the combination of picture quality and price just about sold me. Then this fine website alerted me about the 3000, so I decided to wait, and did so for a week and a half...

I'm not a "technical geek", although I play one from time to time. I know the picture I want when I see it. Of everything I looked at, the new Samsung LCD's drew me in the most (I think mainly from the contrast and the color). But the movement on screen wasn't all that smooth. The new Toshiba LCD's looked damn good, but I saw the "green push" right away.

So my general thoughts on the 3000: So far, I couldn't be happier. I felt the 60" would probably look bigger in my home, and it did. I hoped the 3000 would have even better blacks than the 2020, and I'm pretty sure it does (looks great to me).

The one thing that held me up was that the HD in the store on the 2020 looked good, but the same pic on the plasma always looked deeper. I've never had HD, and I was worried my set wouldn't have the wow factor. Well, let's just say I'm blown away. WSOP, Tonight Show, HBO movies, Discovery Channel.... You get the idea. I've already taped 4 programs that I'd never watch with my standard set.

I've also hooked up my computer, but it's 5 years old and the video card doesn't support widescreen, so I can't fill up the entire screen. Picture is sharp though, but I haven't found the perfect mix of resolution and font size that I can see comfortably.

So this is just an opinion based on "my likes". I'm sure it wouldn't be everyone's favorite. I personally don't want to read to much more, because the nitpicking/small stuff can get in my head and I don't want to ruin it. I love the TV - blacks are great, colors are vibrant, geometry seems fine, (may not be perfect if I tested it with a special DVD, but I don't think I want to know :-)

Negatives? Although it diffuses the light well, these new screens don't do nearly the job my 10 yr old Toshiba did (remember the screens that felt rough?) I still may need to get new blinds for the windows for optimal viewing.

Thanks one last time to insly. I'd still be waiting for some store to put them out on display if he hadn't posted. (and also to you others for your help too)

I may try and post pics later.

Can anyone try and hook a computer up to the vga input when they get a chance? Supposedly the vga input will do 1080p (1920x1080) where as the A2020 only did 1366x768 or something like that through the vga. It would be nice to hook a computer or 360 up to this screen through vga and get the full 1080p.

Also I have heard the component inputs do 1080p rather than 1080i like the old A2020s. Can anyone confirm this also? Thanks!

I believe the sonystyle website has been updated. It appears the XBR has 24 fps and the A3000 does not. Can someone please confirm this? I know insly showed pics of 24 fps, but I'm wondering what the difference is.

Thanks.

Both the VGA and components DO 1080p.

If you mean the dimensions mentioned in Sonystyle.com, I don't think they're right, since they listed all of the TVs (50", 55", 60") with the same dimensions packed !(and the Dimensions someone already posted for the packed 55" doesn't match the dimensions mentioned in the website).

It would really help me if you could post the dimensions of the 60" packaging box.

I would imagine you would just add a few inches width wise to the box each way and you'd be OK, I doubt it's THAT much taller, maybe a few inches.

I just wanted to thank the new owners for taking the time to post all this information. I have been browsing these forums for quite a while waiting for news on the A3000's and the XBR5's, and I've finally registered because I could not resist the urge to view Insly's pictures!

I've been hanging onto an old 55" CRT set which died recently, so this sounds like it might be the perfect upgrade. Thanks again guys, spent several hours reading every post last night. I can't wait until it's my turn to take one home!

Tried VGA from my laptop (nvidia 6800 go) and the highest I could get was 1366x768. 1920x1080 was available, but it always had error or resolution not supported. Not sure why. I will try my HTPC later.

I would imagine that it's built in to the TV though. Everywhere that I've seen reports on this TV; "Deep Color" has been mentioned along with x.v. Color, xvYCC, and 10 bit color. The question is how deep the color can go as far as bit depth. So far I've only heard of 8 bit and up to 10 bit color these days. I think we're still a few years away from deeper color sources except for HD camcorders with x.v. Color. I'm no expert, but if there is no source to display it, then how can you confirm it until Sony is willing to report to the public if it is a 10 bit TV. It's definitely not under the specs in the owner's manual.

where have you seen reports on this TV beign 10 bit deep color. THer eis no where that says this, it only says Deep color for the XBR5. And the stickers on all the new Sony LCDs say "64x color. 10 bit deep color" no sticker on the A3000.

OK, groto. I shut down my system and hooked up VGA from HTPC to a3000. Enabled cloneview on nvidia 7300 gt and swapped inputs on tv. It immediatley showed up and looked great at 1920x1080. It did however have underscan that I could not get rid of lilke I can on the HDMI input. It had about an inch of black on top and bottom and about 3 inches right and left. I tried to scale it to 1808x1016, which is where my HDMI totally fills the picture, but it gave error of unsupportive resolution again. I used 1280x720 and it worked also, just with more black.

Hope that helps, Brian

Very exciting that a few chosen ones now have or are about to have this TV. Mine is on order at Tweeter.

Still waiting for someone to post pics of DVE test patterns and overscan patterns to see if there are any geometry issues. From what I've seen so far in prior posts of ESPN footage it appears that there may be no issues.
