It's hard to tell on that picture, but does the right side seem to barrel. There isn't enough background light for me to tell.

I didn't notice anything. I've got great vision though (20/15) and I was holding a straight edge, doing the best I could to see if there were any noticeable bends and I didn't see any. I was holding the camera a little to the left, shooting the pic's though, I didn't want to move the big foot-rest I have with our couch. I was holding the straight edge to the right of the screen, too.

I'll take your word for it over a picture, just thought I'd bring it up.

It may be the camera then, but it looked pretty good. If you can pull up a 4:3 DVD with a bright scene, that would show the border better. Of if you have the Avia DVD, that would show geometry patterns. I'm pretty sure there are some home brew DVD's that people posted on this forum which does the same thing.

Results may vary, I'm normally pretty anal about stuff like that - however I've been so impressed with the PQ and everything about it so far, that I'm really kinda satisfied that I haven't found the usual problems that I see with other previous TV's I have, such as the screen door, sse and other little stuff.

I think it would be hard to tell period, unless it was pretty obvious about the geometry of a TV from a pic.

I'm going to go and buy one of the DVE/avia discs today, since I can't find mine. I'll probably get it for hd-dvd. I'll post up then.

I forgot to ask... Can you take some pics of it's profile? We want to see how thin they made this puppy.

Here ya go - it's kind of a hard shot, based on where it's at. But, I think you get the idea - it's pretty slimmed down from the previous versions I've seen. It's about the same as the Mitsu65733 I just took back, pretty skinny for a RP.

Just comparing specs, the difference in weight between the 60" versions is less than 4 pounds. If you look at the difference in the other brands suffering geometry problems, it is far greater. That may be a good sign.

The pictures are cool and they are appreciated, but can we have some pictures of something more important to me and perhaps a few other people. I would like some pictures of the XMB menu and show what information is displayed when you hit the display button. I'm hoping for instance, that you could pop in a 1080p/24 source and see if the TV picks up on that and displays it. I currently have the 50A2000 and I'm very disappointed with the fact that it doesn't have very many details on it. Thanks

Insly: you are the man. we are all gonna pester you till some other people get these sets. That TV looks wonderful and I hope you get some serious enjoyment from it.

If you can't find an AVIA DVD's just look at a Sar Ward DVD, they will have the "THX" optimizer.

(man I hope my 3rd Optical block is bad.........I WANT ONE OF THESE!!!!!!

From what I've seen it won't show that it's 1080p/24, it'll just say full HD. It IS 1080p/24 though, I just returned a TV that was supposedly 1080p/24 capable and it looked NOTHING like this.

As far as the menu, I did include some of it, but it's pretty big. I'll post somre more shortly. Essentially, it looks a lot like the PS3 menu.

When hitting the display button on the PS3, it shows the compression rate during a movie, like 25-30ish mbps during scenes of Casino Royale/Apocolypto.

Hi insly. Thanks for all the great info. I'll be tempted to cross the border from Canada to snag one of these sets when they become available. Just wondering what the build date is on your set?

Another question raised a lot about the A3000 series is whether or not it upconverts to 1080i or 1080p. According to the press release, it is 1080i.
Can you confirm that it upconverts 480/720 to 1080p (rather than 1080i)?

OK, it does say 1080/24p when I hit the DISPLAY on the Sony remote for the A3000, proving that it does indeed do 1080/24p natively, as it suggests and even if it didn't say it, you could tell easily by just watching it. I'm going to attach pics of this and the menu:

Let me personally say thanks insly. I think you understand why everyone is asking so much and seems so excited. Most thought we'd have to wait another few weeks minimum. I almost got the a2020, but got wind of this model. I'm on my way to BB now to see if they'll sell me one. (my tv went out 3 weeks ago and I can't wait much longer! )

Thanks again and take care.

I guess I'm slow, I hit display on the A3000 remote while watching Casino Royale, with my settings on my PS3 being 1080/24p and the TV recognized it when I hit display on the A3000 remote - meaning the TV was natively showing the signal at 1080/24p, right?

Thanks for the pictures. This is exactly what I wanted to see. Now when people ask, "does this HDTV do 1080p/24?", (1080/24p same thing) you can just hit the display button and show it. This TV is exactly what I want!! I can't wait till my preorder ships.
