Okay, I'm new to this forum (kinda - mostly trolled for the last 4-5 years) - however I have probably been through 10-15 TV's in the last 2 years.

I was able to pickup the KDS-55A3000 from BB, with the 12% off coupon (BB price was same as MSRP) (Thanks to a great AV member here, I owe you majorly). I was able to pick up for a pretty fair price.

You can reference this thread for the BB SKU numbers - the salesman told me they only had the 55 and the 60" in, no 50's at this point. However, I'm sure that will change: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...1#post11281846

Here are some pics, so far the picture clarity connected to my PS3/HD-A20 is downright AMAZING. I just returned a Mitsubishi 65733 and it was no where NEAR this clear, not even in the same atmosphere.

It's literally like you're almost there watching it!! - I'm not one to get too excited about TV's, having gone through so many, but this is by far the most impressive pic I've seen. This is only my 2nd Sony TV, I've normally stuck with Mitsubishi/Samsung.

Edited to reference all pics in the thread - it DOES natively support 1080/24p:

Sony Marketing SPECS for 50",55",60" A3000

HD-DVD Comparison Picture Modes

Geometry pics (best effort)

Side profile pics

1080/24p proof

XMB Menu pics

More XMB Menu

Even more XMB menu shots

Standard Definition pics

More updates as I get time. So far, completely satisfied and for once 100% happy with my purchase so far.

Even more pictures. With the 120hz refresh rate you can REALLY tell a difference. It also makes you sick watching the action scene in the first part of casino royale. No lag time, it's seriously like you're there.

Sexy, now do you feel like you should have gotten a 60"? I am sooo torn between a 55" and a 60". My wife says 55" is enough since were moving to Japan but I'm afraid I'll regret it ...aaaaaahhhhhh

Nope. The last 5 TV's I've had have all been 62"-65" in the same spot where the 55" is. At some point (in my opinion) you give up PQ for size, I think for me this 55" is the sweet spot. Results may vary, my viewing distance really isn't big enough for a 60"+.

So are you saying your giving up PQ for a 55" over a 60"? Or you saying the bigger you go the less PQ you get? Also my viewing distance is around 8-9'.

Well, it's only my opinion - but I think the bigger the TV you get in most cases the worse the picture will get. Again, that's only my opinion. I have VERY good vision and that's always been the case for me. Results will probably vary.

Now, really, between the 55" and 60" there probably isn't enough difference to notice. I was happy saving the money and I probably only have 8' from the front of the screen to my couch.

For the first time in a long time, so far I'm completely happy with the quality of this TV. That's really amazing to say, if you know me like my wife/family.

Since I've gotten a few PM's about it - here are the SKU numbers for the 2 sizes BB carries:

KDS-55A3000 - BB SKU: 8451677

KDS-60A3000 - BB SKU: 8451668

The lady I spoke to said they had several of them in the Dallas/Fort Worth area - I had to pick it up from their Flower Mound Distribution center, after buying it at the Las Colinas (Irving) BB.

Here's the receipt - note if you use your rewards zone card, the lady said you get $5 for every $250 you spend before tax in coupons sent to you. I think it's used as credit towards a BB purchase.

Thanks for all the great photos insly. Looks super. At some point when you get a chance I'd bet folks are eager to have you put a grid on the screen and tell us how the geometry looks.

No, I wasn't refering to your post. Just in general. I just figured people would like to have the info, since supposedly you can't buy this TV anywhere yet.

I've spoken to a few local high-end stores and even they say they don't have them available yet. Sony's website even indicates they're not available yet.

Gotcha. I don't think these items have firm release dates like movies, books or music. They have kind of rolling expected in-store dates with retailers, so I don't think you're "breaking street date."

Do you have some pics with it out of Vivid Mode?

What kind of games do you got on the PS3? Sorry to be off subject, I just want to see the comparison on that TV to my TV. Really curious on how NCAA08 looks and others if you got em.

As you asked - this is on NCAA '08 on Xbox 360 - 1080p via HDMI.

Note: I left out "custom", because it looked pretty much like cinema and I have made no changes to any of the factory settings.

I just have it through 360, I played it on both 360 and PS3, but thought it looked better on the 360, due to the fact they coded it for 60fps instead of 30fps on the PS3.

pwiss-so you sorta noticed too, huh? Well I say everyone shut the he_ _ up and leave this lucky dude alone for a few hours ! Oh, I for one prefer less pics (yes, thanks for the effort) and MORE excellent commentary. insly obviously has excellent experience with HD units...so leave him alone to view even more critically and then comment to us. He is the first human flesh (that I am hearing from) to eyeball this new SXRD and I, for one, would like to hear about (a) geometry, (b) black level, (c) motion effectiveness (already touched on this a bit), and any visible differences from...say the XBR2 model last year. I think these ae all very germane to fans on here.
BTW, thanks VERY MUCH insly for the commentary and your time...and yes, you ARE our hero !

I haven't read through the manual yet, but I've got to believe it does have "deep color", because the previous mitsu I had (733), did say it had deep color and the colors were NO WHERE close to as deep as they are with this set.

I'm not sure on the 10-bit - I'll review later and report back.

Wolvernole -

That almost brought a tear to my eye, buddy. But, really - just right place, right time. I just called the BB guy to find out when they'd get them and he said I could pick one up today, after calling his bluff a few times, it was the smoothest buying experience I've ever had and I've always tried my best to avoid BB, due to having several poor experiences with them prior. Essentially, boredom got me this TV today.

As far as the geometry and et al; I'm not real sure. It appears to be pretty good, I don't have a lot of history with sony products, however I can't find what others of previous models are identify, but I'll continue looking.

As far as the black levels, (reminder - this is all from my personal vision, no other tools to identify actual numbers) they are much deeper than the mitsu set I just took back. I plan to watch Apocolypto tonight, that has plenty of black/dark scenes, so I'll report again after that.

Take care.

Sorry if this is a stupid question...

I'm looking to upgrade my KDF-E42A10 to the KDS-50A3000 in the very near future. My main concern lies with picking up local (FOX/NBC/CBS..) HD channels without a cable box. I currently just have "poor mans" cable with 13 channels, but my KDF-E42A10 picks up HD versions of these stations for free. Probably not a huge concern to most people, but I need my HD "24" every year

Thanks for any info.

I don't think you'll know if you have deep color until actual source material with deep color is available and a device with HDMI 1.3 enables it.

In what way? Certainly not for HD! Are you referring to SD perhaps?

I think an important question that many of us would like to know is how is the SSE?

Good question. This is a bit of an Achilles heal on RP's, to be sure. I have noticed that Sony handles screen SSE better than the JVC's which have a very nice overall PQ, but yikes, their SSE was really a negative. But we digress the excellent SXRD 3000 in within reach...and review by our guy, insly...enjoying "Apocolypto" as we await further word .
