Thanks for the site Firebird, would have been tough without the photos.

However.......after getting it all put back together I can't get the TV out of standby. It will try to go on once and then it sounds like a circuit is tripping. Any idea what I could have done wrong that would cause this? Bad solders? Lord knows I had a hard time with them.

Thx

Do you know how to adjust for misconvergence on a SXRD?

Will your directions work on a JVC AV-56WP30 56 in?
Where might somebody find IC Convergence Chips?

Thank you,

wwwDOT sutton DOTORG/SONY KP-61xbr38 Convergence Repair.htm

Oleg:

I am starting the repair on my SONY KP-61XBR38. I have taken out the D board with contains the STK4278-Ls. One has loose pins (23, 24) due to cold solder or heat/cool over 15 years.

Question: Someone has suggested ADDING small heatsink directly to the plastic top of the STKs using theremal adhesive? This is in addition to the aluminum tray acting as heatsink the IC is clamped to.

Does this seem like it COULD work or add any cooling dissipation value??

I really could use advice finding the resistors components to check. I purchased one Service MANUAL PDF from online CHEAPO site and was hosed -- it's missing almost all diagrams and schematics.

I guess I'll have to find a better, more expensive source for a complete manual.

Replaced the convergence chips recently in my 9 year Sony RPTV. Could not remove the circuit board completely out of the TV. I re-soldered the new chips on my back from the underside of the circuit card assembly (CCA). Not the recommended way if you don't know what you're doing. Downloaded the service manual, redone the convergence, and my TV looks as good if not better than the day it was delivered 9 years ago.

Abundant OTA television is what makes this country different from all others. Lets keep it this way. If you like Wi-Fi so much, OTA fits right in. After all, it is wireless.

What is the value of these pioneer sd-643hd5 if one was to buy one used? I see someone selling one for $800 that appears to be in new condition and it was just repaired (convergence I think) I always liked this TV and wouldn't mind another Screen.

I doubt it that it will worth that much now - may be couple hundred bucks if even that - since this technology is long time in the past.
