Hi All,
I've had this set, Sony KD-34XBR2, for about 8 years. It just went bad on me.

It wouldn't start up, I could hear power kick in but screen stayed black.

Unplugged overnight and set powered up next day, image visible but not quite right, there was a little zoom to the image and it was slightly off. Then volume started going up until it was really loud and garbled. Could not control volume, eventually turned set off. Now I don't get image at all, but I do get a series of 11 blinks of the standby light, followed by bursts of 4 blinks, continuously.

Spoke to a tech that told me to replace B Board, said it was easy. So, I've been doing some research and I've also come upon a lot of articles that mention the D Board in these sets.

My question is, what are the specific functions of the "B" Board and the "D" Board? Sony sells both and replacing them is not a problem, I would just like some clarification on what the function of each of these boards is.

Thank you!

The D board generates the high voltage and H/V CRT deflection signals. The B board is mostly video processing. See if you can find a service manual for your Sony. Depending on your area it may be cheaper and easier to buy a used set of the same design.

Thanks White Wiskers, I appreciate the answer.

Has anyone else experienced major problems with this model?

None with mine, bought 8/25/01, and used 5-6 hours every day.

One anomaly I've noticed many cable channels are running with different color palettes and saturation levels. This requires me to more frequently switch between Pro, Standard, and Movies Picture Modes. I don't recall this being a problem a few years back.
