Not all Flatpanels are equal in how they show depth, and not all CRT's are either. My old 2012 Insignia LCD had no depth, neither does the 42 inch Vizio downstairs, but My Kuro has just as much depth as any CRT I've ever seen. Also from what I've seen in BB OLED has better depth perception than anything before.
When I had an 34XBR960 CRT & Kuro in the same room I noticed the CRT did have a little more depth than the Kuro but the Kuro had a much punchier picture & higher ANSI contrast ratio. I still own both TV's and sadly the CRT's Convergence & Focus have slipped over the years, The Kuro still looks fantastic.
XBR960 purchased in 2005, Kuro late 2007 but I'm willing to bet the Plasma has many more hours of use at this point.
UPDATE 8-20-16: Spent a couple hours in the service menu and for the most part got it looking better, especially the convergence which was really off, It's still a great looking TV for older consoles, currently have Wii , the original Xbox and Dreamcast hooked up to it, Our X1 and PS4 are used on the Plasma.
