I'm looking for a solution:

I have my home theater in the basement right below my living room. I have a new dual out hdmi bluray player coming, and want to use the second output to feed my living room tv for parties, and for those occasions where as a host I have to leave the party and get things/cook for everyone.

The problem is the upstairs tv is a proscan 480i tube tv with component as it's best inputs (eleven years old). I can't have a flat panel there right now (just upgraded my projector and got bluray, not enough money for all), but still need a way to do this. I've heard of the hd fury as a way to accomplish this, but is there another way to send the feed from the bluray to my tv?

Thanks!

And you don't just run a component cable, why??

Length of run and size of hole necessary in bottom plate of the wall. Plus, eventually it will be a hd tv up there, and I'd rather leave the cable in place.

Unless the dual outputs of the BRD can be set independantly (one 1080i, one 480i), you may have to consider an alternative.

Also, even IF you can use an HDFury for video, you have the audio cabling to consider for the 480i TV.

And the price of an HDFury, you might as well just put a bit extra and get a flat panel to replace it. Or, you could attempt to build your own HDMI converter. But you'd still have the problem of the resolution setting. You could run component/audio (figure out some way to fit it in your wall) and just use the green component as a yellow cvbs cable. If you really can't fit component cable, you could get a component to cat5 converter and run cat5 (something like this).

To add, if you have to drill a hole through the plate to accomodate the hdmi, you can probably feed three RCA connectors through the same size hole. Just not all three connectors at the same time.

Some finesse (folding and tape) will work IMO.

Or, for the low, low price of $1274.95, go wireless!

It's the samsung d6700, so there is no component out. Would the fury work though or will I have copy protection problems?

Check your manual page 21. It clearly states that the component out can display 480i/p 720p and 1080i.

Amazon didn't say so :/ Thanks for that I wonder if it will output 480 over component at the same time as HDMI 1080....

It arrives tomorrow though, so I guess I'll find out

According to this thread, BR players manufactured after 1/1/2011 can only output 480i over component.

If you don't mind regular composite outputs to your TV, you can use this HDMI-to-Composite converter for around $60, which can remove copy protection.

According to the opening post... that's all he needs (480i).

Wow....
Post #10 already pointed out that page.
Post #11 states that the OP should get his manual (with a player) today.

Wow ... when I responded, I'd only read down to message #8.

Eh, I just ignore the cheap digs.

Anyway, player works great I'm going to get a component/dig coax/av repeater wall plate. It has an ir repeater in it too

So... does the player allow 480i over component and 1080i over HDMI simultaneously?

I will tell you tonight. I got home late and only set it up and loaded a bluray. I'll plug in both to my projector and try switching sources.

Well it eventually worked. It needed a firmware update, AND, get this, it wouldn't work switched through my receiver. Weird.

1080p x2 via HDMI, and 480i over component

Add this to my component/audio over cat5 balun with ir repeater and I can watch on three units at once for awesome parties at the house
