I'm wondering what the benefit of the newer tube in the 34WHD6 will be if used as a PC monitor. I'm already leaning towards it because of the line doubler and generally fixed design, but wondering if there are any specific advantages to the new tube, which IIRC is specifically a data grade tube.

Sampo America told me that both the Toshiba tube on 34whd5 and the Panasonic tube on the upcoming 34whd6 are what they called data grade or HD3 tubes. Which is better? Ask after the 34whd6 is released. I know that the Princeton AF3.0HD uses a toshiba tube (an earlier, non-flat version of the tube in the Sampo I had heard (but different size of course)). The new set is evidently even heavier than the old one, maybe because of the new tube. If so, probably good for the Panasonic as heavier is often better. If you plan to use it as a PC monitor, the line doubler addition for the 34whd6 would be useless to you.
