I am on the market for a direct view TV. I really would like to go with an HDTV ready, since it's only me and my wife and I don't plan to buy another TV for the next 5 years. So I need a future-proof TV. That's why I'm considering the JVC with DVI/HDCP.

I read a lot of discussion about people wondering if they should buy an HDTV now or wait for a DVI/HDCP model. And nobody mention this JVC model! So, I'm wondering if it's just that people don't know that there's a DVI model available right now or if the set is just a bad one.

Since this is the only direct view HDTV with DVI/HDCP available at the moment (at least, that I know of), I was expecting a lot of discussion about this set, but it's just not happening. And I already searched *************** and google.groups.

Is there anybody here that have seen it at a shop or at home? How does it perform compared to Sony XBR and Panny TAU? Picture quality? Geometry problems?

Just some details on my situation. I just moved from another country and I currently don't have any TV. I'm using a friend's 20" set that I have to return the next month. So, just wait for new DVI models to come up is not an option. I could buy a crappy TV for now and buy an HDTV at the end of the year, but I'd rather not, since this crappy TV will be useless after I buy the HDTV set.

Thanks

JVC will have a new model of the 36" set with DVI this summer. You might want to wait. Sony and RCA will have DVI sets this summer and fall. Toshiba has not yet announced its fall line-up, but will likely follow suit.

Do you have any other information about this new model from JVC? Is it gonna be an upgrade from the current 36P902? Are they going to correct some design flaw? I read a note in another forum from a current 36P902 owner and he is pretty happy with the set.

Do you have any other information about RCA models? Are they gonna release some replacement for the now discontinued F38310, but with DVI? If so, I will wait since the RCA 38" widescreen was my first option before I read about this DVI/HDCP issue. I read somewhere that RCA would not release anothe model with the 38" tube.

Thanks for the info.

There will be no RCA 38" model in the new lineup due to the discontinuation of the chassis by the manufacturer. Check with JVC on the new features of the 36PO903, but since it will be out soon I would assume that it has some refinements such as a better line doubler.

I found very little information about this new set from JVC, 36P903. The only info was from JVC press release.

From the specs on the press release, it seems this set is virtually identical to the current 36P902. The strange part is that along the whole article, there's not a single mention about the current model. And the way they put, it gives the reader the impression the 903 is the first HDTV monitor from JVC. Here's a quote:

“Consumers and dealers alike have been asking for more digital offerings from JVC and we are answering this call with 32†and 36†1080i HDTV monitors for the U.S. market,†said Dan McCarron, National Product Specialist for the JVC Color Television Division.

I have the impression that the 902 wasn't meant for the US market since it's quite hard to find and it has not been advertised. It seems the 903 model is the US version of the 902. This is all my impressions and not facts, but the only 902 owners I saw talking about this TV were canadians.

In Los Angeles, Good Guys 4/28 Sunday ad shows the 902. It has been in at least one store for several months.

Well, I couldn't find in any local store. I live in Detroit area. I just saw it in Yahoo store and in the cg electronics web site, refubished set for ~1350.

The guy that told me very nice things about the set is canadian and bought it in Eaton (Sears). But I can't find it on my local Sears. I'll ask them if they don't carry it at all, next time I'll go there.

Have you seen it? Any comments on the set?
