I had one through most of the 90s and it was solid as a rock. Very very good quality. Wish I still had it!

Have a CT-36HX40 (36" 4:3 480p/1080i Tau). Besides a small amount of geometrical distortion (bow at top and bottom), the set has overall been excellent. The upscaling of 480i content isn't that great when you look closely (too much of that "digital" look on TV mode, and iffy deinterlacing on GAME mode) but I don't even notice it once I'm at least several feet away from the screen. The contrast and color of the picture are superb, as is the overall build quality and construction (this set was built before QC started going a bit downhill and CRT outsourcing became rampant). Some of the buttons on the original remote tend to get stuck or not work, but I am still able to use all the PIP and split-screen functions with a universal remote. My only other complaint about the set is that it does not accept a 720p signal (only 480i, 480p, or 1080i). But overall, it has an excellent picture (especially on 480p and 1080i sources), has been very reliable, and gives great sound out of the built-in speakers. I wouldn't trade it in for any flat-panel HDTV. From what I understand, many other Panasonic Tau owners feel similarly.

Hello, I TOO have a Panasonic CRT!
It`s a 36HL43! This IS the BEST that Panasonic EVER MADE! IMO!
I have a Digital input NOT HDMI but the one before that came out.
DVI, I think it`s called. Just like the old printers had the long left to right
cable, scis 25DB.
Anyway, the tv has a BUILT in 15 watt subwoofer,
Picture-IN-Picture, Picture NEXT-TO Picture, which is GREAT
for watching alot of Porn. Or just catching up on the sport scores.
It also has the Geo Correction and Tilt correction in the menus.

Glad to read the Tau's are reliable as I acquired a CT-34WX50 a few months ago. Much like P719C1 wrote review-wise. Folks love them for their SD upscaling but up close I see a significant loss of detail; color is too strong/red too which I suspect is the upscaler (doubling?) but possibly the converter boxes. Everything seems to fall into place on component input though, even 480i has more detail (maybe component doesn't upscale?). Sound is awesome, they did some interesting acoustic physics with the cabinet. PoutP is cool.

Any of you have any info on service menu access and description? Mine has one corner that's off-color, may be a Landing adjustment like some computer monitors. Geo Correct looks like it works on the test screen but not in reality (I think the blue test screen is masking it).
