Hi, I just need to know one thing- does the FV310 line (27", 32", and 36") have "Trinitron" at the top left of the TV, or "WEGA"? Quick google searches show mainly "Trinitron" but some "WEGA" as well. Does anyone have any of these particular models? Does yours have Trinitron or WEGA at the top left? Any help would be appreciated!

Uh, I've seen the Wikipedia page. That doesn't tell me anything at all about whether or not it has Trinitron or WEGA in the corner...

I was guessing that you were trying to find out if they're WEGA models.

I suppose I am, but if you took a moment to look, you'd see the Wikipedia page has a "List of Sony FD Trinitron/WEGA television models," with no distinction between the two.

So tell us why you want to know this.. I mean after all, the model number is on the back of every TV ever made.. if you can see the front then check the back?

Not sure why you're being kind of nosy about it, but it keeps me from emailing every idiot on Craigslist and waiting days for them to respond that they can't find the model number. Let's me rule some out quickly based on appearance alone.

As a craig's list junkie, I completely understand and good luck with your search.

Based on the first pgh it sounds like all WEGAs are "flat" versions of Trinitrons (I remember seeing curvy tube Trinitrons way back when).

Yeah I know where you're coming from on the CL idiots and figured your motive was something along those lines. I've been keeping my eyes open for a 34" widescreen HD CRT, ideally one of those two at the top of that WEGA page (and hence finding that site). Most of 'em rolleyes.gif don't know what size they have so I have to search for all Sony TVs then look at everything in the 30"s to low 40"s. Then of course they don't give the model number (or it's wrong) or they post a marketing photo of the wrong model. tongue.gif Of course these are more of a needle in a haystack so it's not a lot of queries to get it straight.

GL!

Here is a KV27FV300.. if the ad is still there next time you log in. Being the want $100 I expect it will be around for some time.

Looks like trinitron top left

Yeah, hunting on Craigslist for TV's has been... Difficult to say the least. Thanks airscapes, that pretty much confirms "Trinitron" being in the corner, for me at least. The FV300 and FV310 line were identical except for the high voltage regulator in the 310 which stopped whites and other bright colors from distorting the screen(why I'm after it). Guess there's a long road ahead of me...

Funny, one of the things we turn off (set to lowest amount of limiting) on the xbr960 when calibrating is the dynamic white limiter in the service menu.. is that what you are referring to?

Hmm, unsure. From what I understand it limits the "bloom" effect where the picture gets larger when whites and other bright colors come on the screen. I don't think it actually restricts anything about the white level or contrast or whatever, it just ends the dilemma of either having a distorted picture or a dim screen, since lowering the brightness will reduce distortion overall. If anyone better versed in this can jump in though, it would be appreciated.

EDIT: Looking at Sony's support site, your XBR960 does have a high voltage regulator FYI. The FV310 is the only 480i Trinitron I've found that has one though.

That sounds kinda like that annoying 'breathing' of the image I've seen on high contrast scenes (police flashing lights really makes 'em whacko) on cheaper or older CRTs. Somewhere I read they claimed it was due to undersized and/or insufficiently designed HV transformer or power supply. HV regulator would make sense then too.

I ran into this same issue a couple months ago. Why don't people put model numbers in their posts?! I ended up using onecraigs.com to find the closest person to me who DID put the model number in and went on a but of a road trip for my sv310. There were some 300s a little closer but I said "screw it if I'm driving for it I might as well get the exact one I want!"

Might unfortunately be what I have to resort to. I'll have to convince someone to be dragged along too, before I die of boredom- closest one I've seen so far in any size is nearly 4 hours away. Still hoping for something near where I live but it seems unlikely. Thanks for the link ScoobyMaroon!

I 2nd the motion! Didn't know about onecraigs.com. Should be useful for modest drives, I doubt many CLers are willing to ship anything.

I've gotten a few people to ship things on Craigslist. It never hurts to ask politely and offer to pay (NOT as a gift payment) with a verified paypal account. But something like a 100+ pound television they'd have to ship freight? No way, unless you find a crazy person with one you want. So yeah, it's perfect for big items you need to drive a ways away to get.
