I'm trying to research the different 30" Widescreen models from Samsung, but I'm having a hard time. I'm assuming the TXM line is being replaced by the TSL (aka Tantus) line, but the difference in price is astounding. It seems that the TSL3095 generally sells for $2000 while the TXM3096 sells for $1200. The only real difference I see is that the cheaper TXM actually has 2 component ins while the TSL only has 1!

Am I missing something important?

TXM3098WHF
TXM3097WHF
TXM3096WHF $1200
TSL3099WHF Top of Line $2500
TSL3095WHF $2000

I believe the TXM series has better speakers.

TXM models are also charcoal black as opposed to that God-awful silver of the Tantus series.

The TSL3099WHF is shown as charcoal on the website (I don't like the silver either)... it emphasizes an advanced tube with higher res guns & mask... but the TXM3097 is HALF the price! Who uses internal speakers anyway...

I wish Samsung would make a 34" widescreen model. If they did, I'd be all over it.

Where did you find the TXM3097 for $1200? I can find the TXM3096 for that price, but the TXM3097 has two tuners and usually runs for $1500.

I have to agree; the quality of the speakers doesn't factor into my tube purchase.

CharlesDu, I think you have it backwards, the TSL models are the older ones and the TXM models are the new line. I just spoke with a Samsung rep about the TXM2798HF and he said it is a NEW model that hasn't started shipping yet. Don't know much about quality, internal specs, but it seems like they have increased their offerings with the new line ... i.e. the TXM2798HF has bottom mounted speakers instead of the side mount ones that made the old TSL 27" wider than most 32" TVs. Since most people buying a High Def capable tube probably have a surround sound stereo setup, I have never understood why they put those damned speakers on the side!
Later,
Bob

Yes I did have it backwards until I read the dtv_product_listing_apr02.pdf.

It is great to see that the new Samsung sets with more/better features are actually less expensive then the ones they are replacing. It is just surprising to see that the old TSLs are still going for a higher price than the new TXMs. I (incorrectly) thought with an $800 price difference surely something important must have been downgraded.

Now if we could just see a similar price drop (60%) for HDTV Satellite STBs!

I actually found the TXM3097 in stock at onecall.com....even though Samsung said it was barely shipping at this point. And like someone above said it was only $1300. We will see how it is. :)

I was just at Costco and saw the TSM3099WHF for $1299 in charcoal. Is this an older model? Are the TXM's better? What does the "3099" signify? The latest TXM I believe is the TXM3098WHF. What exactly is the difference between the TXM3098WHF and the TSM3099WHF?

Thanks

As far as I can tell...

The TSM's are older than the TXM's, and the TXM's have two componenet inputs, where the TSM's have one. The models numbers that follow differentiate the features. One model is BestBuy only and usually has less features, at a lower price, like no 2 tuner-pip. Then the next two models up are usually pretty similar in picture and features with one having a better sound/speaker system built in to the tv, usually marked Dynaflat, and Tantus Dynaflat respectively.

That's a generalization but I've found it to be pretty much the case with the Samsung direct-view HDTVs.
