I am looking at the new Panasonic CT36HX42 model for a bedroom TV.

I recently went into BestBuy and actually got an informed sales person to talk with. I asked him about a new Pany 36" HD model and he knew the model number to lookup in the computer. It seems the TV will be their warehouse by July, 18, 2002.

I cannot find any info on the Panasonic website, I just found these 2 threads which gave some more info.

I am specifically looking for dimensions on the set. Only because the wall unit I am putting it in currently can fit either the current Hitachi or Panasonic models. I would like to buy the newest model if possible and hopefully the dimensions have not changed.

Any info on this model would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Ira

Before I decided to purchase a Pioneer RPTV the Panasonic 36 HDTV monitor was my choice... I talked to panasonic on the phone and the only difference between the 42 and the 41 is an 8 bit processor for the PIP... Also the list price dropped 200 bucks... If you can find a 41 at blowout prices go ahead and buy it... ;)

I thought the SVM was selectable on this new set as well. May be better to have with highly compressed signals...

It would be better if they would allow the line doubler to be disabled as it makes a mess out of the over compressed DirecTV signals on the existing model.

Thanks all for the info. The Sear's site had the 36hx42 for sale already.

From what I've been reading, I think there are more differences from last years model than just the PIP processor.

Ultimate Electronics has it in their warehouse July 3, 2002. We will see if it ships on time.

The Panasonic discussion board has some good info on it.

I just called my local sears store and they said this item would be in the store by mid August. I'm about ready to return my 36HX41 because the SVM is driving me up the wall. I guess I can just wait a few weeks with no TV.

I wrote an e-mail to Sears and they said you could purchase the item on their website and that it should be a stock item at most mall locations. I also called abt electronics to complain about my CT36HX41 and they said they would exchange it for the CT36HX42 on Tuesday so they must have them. Apparently the box size and weight is the same for the 42 and 41. From what I have read, the 42 has: Selectable Digital VM •Digital Horizontal Edge Correction •Multi-Format Display P-I-P •Scalable Picture-in Picture •Subwoofer •Video Picture Memory •Improved Aspect Adjustment •Discrete Remote Codes for Component Video Inputs •Motion Adaptive 3-Line Comb Filter •Advanced 8-bit P-I-P Processing •10-bit 60Mhz A/D Conversion Image Processing & Enhanced Progressive Scan Doubler.

I got the CT36HX42 today. It is very, very similar to the 41. VM is selectable and it doesn't seem to have too much effect on the picture, it is noticable but I don't think it looks bad either way. From what I read in the manual, the subwoofer is only included on the CT36HL42. That's not a big deal since I'll never use the sound on it anyway. The picture does look better than the 41, but how much better I'm not sure. It does have three settings for the picture adjustments which is nicer than the 41. It also has a tilt adjustment which you don't need to go into the service menu for. I didn't see anything about any discrete remote codes for the different inputs. I got mine from Abt Electronics on an exchange. I still don't see it for sale on their website, though.
