First off, I have little to no knowledge of CRT TVs other than what I have read on this website, so please take everything I say with a grain of salt.

I was recently given a Wega KV34HS420 that had extreme overscan. After doing some reading and getting into the service menu i was able to dial back the overscan and unfortunately discover an entirely new issue. The left side of the picture "droops" down. I have attempted to search for a solution but without knowing the technical term for the issue my searches have yielded zero results. The best way I can describe it is that if the picture is a rectangle, then someone grabbed the left edged and pulled it down a quarter of an inch, but the center to the right edge of the rectangle did not move at all. So the left edge is just lower or "drooping" down.

I'm primarily wondering if this is a hardware issue or if it can be corrected in the service menu? And if it can be corrected, can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks.

Smile Geometry problems

On CRT, most problems on Geometry points out to Horizontal circuit and Vertical circuit. in your case most likely is the horizontal deflection coil is bad.

Your Sony CRT should have many more adjustments for geometry available in the 2170D-1 and 2170D-2 sections of the service menu than just the ones that adjust horizontal and vertical size. It may not be able to eliminate the problem but it may make it more tolerable.

Write down the original settings before making any changes.

If you can't solve the problem with the physical raster it may be possible as a last resort to blank out the faulty area with the blanking shutters and adjust the MID settings so only the better part of the raster is being used. See this warning on that method
