I am looking for my first DTV and would like a 36" direct view. The two models I have narrowed it down to are:
Panasonic CT-36HX42 and
Toshiba 36HF71.

Could someone please offer a constructive opinion on which one has the better features overall? If you had too pick between the 2, which one would you choose and why?

Well for one thing, the Toshiba is probably going to be replaced soon while the Panny is just out. Good Guys had the Toshiba for $1799. What did you see the Panny for?

Gee .. you should check out the Sony 36XBR-800 (new model) .. I have the 36XBR-500 and love it ... you might find some closeout models for less than $2000 ..... also ... do you plan on watching HDTV or anamorhphic DVD's? if so, you might look into a 34" widescreen (16:9) .. that is the approx viewing size of 16:9 on the 36" 4:3 ... sony and panasonic each make a 16:9 directview HDTV ... you might not like the black bars at the top of a 4:3 TV when viewing widescreen material (doesn't bother me .. I'm used to it ... but my next TV will be 16:9 ... probably a 50" plasma:D )
