I have no idea what happen. For some reason there are red, green and blue lines across my KD-36XS955. Is there any values in the Service Menu that could fix this? Any help would be appreciated thanks!
I had a similar problem with a television I had in the 80s, it developed horizontal lines across the top of varying colours. They were very visible over any image on the screen. These colours would also vary, and so would the length of the line. It was a "creeping" issue as it continually got worse, each power-on and while using it, more lines would appear, creeping farther down the image. Some would even appear as dashes, and alternate, in sort of a blinking pattern. Turned out to be a symptom of a voltage regulator that was going bad. I had it replaced, and the problem crept back in about five years later. I had it replaced again, and the problem returned when? Another five years later. The third time I sent it to the bin because it was just too aggravating and I had better tubes to choose from by then.
If the problem is anything like mine, a part needs replacing. If it's the same fault, then it would be the same purpose part (volt regulator), but being that my old TV was a "Spectricon" brand and not a Trinitron that isn't likely. A service manual is your only hope at isolating it, short of professional help. You might open the back up and check for any bad parts, but only very obvious ones will be findable without the SM info.
You might want to gauge how far you want to go on your own, or monetarily, to fix this. It could be more cost effective to source another TV from Craigslist or wherever. Alternatively, you could try calling local TV repair shops. If they've been in business since before 2006, then they likely have some experience with tube TVs and will have the tools and other resources (service access with Sony).
And of course you can always Google for the service manual and bug us here.
Of course there's always looking for bulging/leaking electrolytic capacitors which are typically inherent to voltage regulator circuits.
I'd perform keyword searches in the thread for this model and the similar models. Keep in mind this CRT genre has become kind of a ghost land when it comes to replies so time to start digging in the library.
Okay, upon further inspection I've seen that using HDMI set to 1080i the lines across my screen don't appear. So I'm going to assume (haven't looked further yet) that setting it to letterbox mode (16:9) won't make the lines appear on that mode yet watching it in full mode (4:3) does. Any advice for me here before I venture any further?
Hello guys! I have been looking on google for anyone else that has had this problem. Lucky me it's so recent! My friends and I brought home a 34XBR970 and it didn't have the lines problem on any channel. Switched it to Video 2 to use a solid image (Nintendo Gamecube) to go into the service menu and recalibrate everything. (colors were bleeding a little, some overscan, and some bands/curves on the edges)
It's been years since I have been in the service menus of two 960s (the 970 is exactly the same) so I forgot what most of the codes meant, so I fiddled around with a few to test. Most of the numbers were remembered and returned to their original setting, but I must have slipped up somewhere because after I finished changing settings, I saved, turned the television off, and back on, and that's when we noticed the 6 lines on the upper half of the screen. They are 2 red, 2 green, and 2 blue lines that are mostly horizontal but start curving upward slightly toward the upper right corner. They are difficult to notice when another image is present, so we didn't notice them until the TV was on without an image present. I was planning on going back and messing with EVERY setting to figure this out, but I am hoping that someone here will be able to tell me which setting(s) are most likely to be the one to fix this. Perhaps it will work for the original poster too! I am going back over on Monday to try and fix it. Hope to hear from you!
