That's an understatement, for sure!! You can bet the farm that once the 960's are actually in the stores, there will be a tremendous FIRE SALE on the 910's. It would be an excellent time to pick up a 910 for a cheapy price, but personally I would not choose it over a 2nd Generation Super Fine Pitch Tube, Cable Card Reader, HD Tuner, HDMI connects, etc., etc. that the 960's possess.

I wonder when this set will be available for pickup or delivery from Circuit City?

Is July 2nd the date Sony ships to the stores, or is it when the the stores can officially start selling the set in their store?

4 more weeks :) I have been waiting for 2 1/2 months...

Jamison, I don't know. The inference seems to be that SonyStyle will ship directly on or around July 2 to customers. I would hope the other stores have them in stock around the same time.

No mention of the 34XBR960 on the websites of JandR, CC or Tweeters still. CC still has the 910 at full retail price although as discussed before, JandR has it at 20% off.

I may go to Tweeters tomorrow and see if they will have a waiting list or something. I don't think we will get anything better than MSRP ($2,199.99) for a while because of all us nuts who want it desperately.

Deal at GoodGuy's

24 months 0% financing

Deal at Circuit City:

18 months 0% financing
10% off or Gift card

Both places you can probably Get a free stand and free delivery if you buy their 5 year warranty. I may do that and later in the month return the warranty... That way you get:

Free delivery
Free stand
xbr 960 for $2200

After returning the warranty, buy an online warranty for Warrantech warranty for$108

Jamison,

Did you get this info on Circuit City by calling them? This is for the 960, right? They are offering 10% off the price of the 960?

Thanks.

I just noticed that CC has been having sale on ALL of their sets for the last 5-6 months at least. They change their sales... from offering 10 percent off (NOW) or a gift card worth $200.00. I asked how long will the sale last.,.. he said most likely I would get 10 percent off or a gift Card..

SonyStyle.com site is having a free shipping promotion through June 10th. As the link posted above states, the new 960 will be available "On or about July 2nd". However, if you click the pre-order button for the 960, it still shows free shipping. In the case of the 960, this promotion includes Sony's Premier In-Home delivery (Free for TV's 32 in. or larger). "Premier" means, "Our service will place the TV in your room of choice, unpack it and plug it in to make sure that it is operational. We will also remove any packing materials from your home unless otherwise directed by the consignee." This would be very useful for a 200 pound TV!
So, apparently pre-ordering before June 10th gets you the free delivery.

Most consumers, even us hardcore High Def fanatics, are not at home watching digital programming during the summer months. We are out with our families spending money on vacations and traveling.

Howdy y'all,

What about the 2004 Summer Olympics that are starting in June???

Is that not incentive to watch on a Hi-Def monitor???

Hell hath no fury, like a women's scorn for Sega - Broadie.

Is SonyStyle a Reliable website to shop at to buy this set? I read a few negative comments about them...

Also, where would be the fastest place to get this set... SonyStyle or a store??? I would think it might be hard to get it at a store because of the newness factor and the high demand...

Hi,

I was wondering exactly how you can "haggle" at Circuit City. I'm assuming when they offer the warranty, you don't just say "I'd like the free stand and delivery." I am planning on getting a 960 when it comes out and if my sister and bro-in-law are in a new house by then, then they will get one as well. I was thinking of using the incentive of a double sale to get a better deal. What are some techniques to use?

Oh, is it bad that I set that picture of the xbr960 as my wallpaper?

Thanks,

Brett

I'm hoping to get 10% off and a free stand. I know Best Buy does that on the first purchase with their credit card. BB doesn't sell the XBR line but it should help when haggling CC or whomever. I hear the stand is free to stores so I expect to get the same.

Does anyone know what the wattage of the 960 will be? I didn't see anything for the 910 either. 250 watts? I want to get an UPS for it.

Tweeters finally has the 34XBR960 in their computers and it is expected in the warehouse by July7-9, according to the sales clerk who looked it up for me. They list it at $2,299 but he was willing to match the SonyStyle list price of $2,199. They also offer a 60 day price guarantee so if it goes on sale elsewhere, they will match the price. Delivery and set up is $39.99 and the 5 year warranty is $179.99.

I then went to CC but they still don't have it in their computer. They no longer have the 10% off all TV's sale, but individual units are marked down. The 910 is still at the $2,499 list with a free stand. Their warranty is more expensive than Tweeters.

Powderdog, they are currently offering free shipping on their website. I don't know if this would apply to the 960 when it's released. You might be better off with SonyStyle.

I don't find any XBR on their website. Maybe they have more items for local sale than web order.

That is correct, they don't have all their products on the site, but they may add the 960 when it is in stock, or close to being in stock.

Would you suggest buying from www.sonystyle.com for the 2199 plus 18 months of 0% financing... or would you suggest getting it at a Local store?

If the deal were basically the same, I'd definitely go for the local B&M store. I had this same question about 18 months ago when buying my 40XBR. Also, I sprang for the CC 5-Year Extended Warranty, which turns out to be one of my better decisions.

In this case, I would prefer to get it at my local store. I like Tweeters better than CC and BB, since they are a little more service oriented.

The sonystyle.com deal (free premium shipping and 18 mo. no interest) looked pretty good at first. A closer look showed "Premier In-Home delivery" takes 5 - 12 business days. If you get the stand, they will not assemble it and if they need to uncrate it to get the unit in the front door, you have to sign a release "absolving the service from responsibility for any damage". As others have mentioned above, there have been some unfavorable reviews about sonystyle. Here is a link to customer reviews of sonystyle at epinions.com:

http://www.epinions.com/webs-Web_Ser...splay_~reviews

I think something of this size and weight should probably be purchased locally.

Stopped by Circuit City and asked if they had an ETA in their system for the 34XBR960 and it hasn't shown up in their system yet. The guy was surprised since he heard his manager mention that they were clearing the 34XBR910 models soon to make room for the upcoming 34XBR960.

I will most likely buy it from Circuit city or Good Guys. I would suggest other poeple buy it from them also. Here are a few reasons..

1.) You can take home the stand before you get the Tv set.

2.) They deliver it to your house, unpack it, and set it up on your stand. THEN you sign the waiver AFTER you see it works, not before they unload it from the truck.

3.) If something happens, its a local store, so its easier to return it...
