I just looked at Sonys page for the "960"
Two things:
1.) New stand SU-34XBR3, no picture
2.) i-Link (IEEE-1394) Firewire :D

I wish sears sold the xbr line. They have the best warranty because they have their own tech's come to your house. They do not go through a 3rd party warranty place like most places do. At this point they only sell the 510 series. Anyone know if they will add the 960 xbr line since the 510 is discontinued? I doubt it though....

Firewire? That's amazing! Hats off to Sony for adding that.

I just found out that I can order this set for around $1400 (sweet Sony employee discount), which pretty much makes it a done deal for me!

I have two questions though:

1) What are their intentions with the firewire? Is this just for hooking up a DV camera or for hooking together home theatre components down the line? I guess there's the remote possibility that this could be used to hook the screen up to a computer at some point.

2) I'm a Comcast customer and I might try to get them to hook me up with a CableCard (apparently they have to by law after July 1st or something?). Other than avoiding a set-top box, are there any other big advantages to this? I use Beyond TV and a usb-uirt to record digital channels. I'm assuming this setup wouldn't be possibile with the CableCard?

Firewire is useful with D-VHS decks.

Does anyone know whether the 960 will continue to have the anti-reflective screen. I have not found it posted on any of the spec sheets.

Thanks.

Another sign that it's coming soon:

http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S....asp?sg=2#1046

Listed as a special (HTIB rebate) but no product page yet. Also, seems that shipping is free on the 960, not $30 as for the 910.

Does anyone have a diagram or picture of the back panel of the XBR-960?

I want to know if there is some kind of digital audio output, or do we need to use the Firewire to carry Dolby Digital and/or DTS from the monitor to our A/V receiver/preamp?

Hell hath no fury, like a women's scorn for Sega - Broadie.

Segaboy out..........
