Hi, I have a 36 inch RCA tv.. nothing fancy, just a tv, not a flat screen or anything. We bought it from Walmart about 3 years ago when we moved in. Never had a problem with it at all.. but then 2 days ago it all of a suddent doesn't want to turn on. The top "power button" that turnes green while turned on attempts to turn the tv on. It makes the "hissing noise" like it's about to show a picure, then just shuts off. No picture is ever displayed.

I've tried unplugging the tv for a few hours to cycle the power, that doesn't help.

Basically, I just need to know if there is anything I can try... and if it's even cost effective to try to get it repaired, or just invest in a new TV?

There's not much else you can do.
What did the TV cost when new? Were you really happy with it? It's likely to be expensive to repair ($200 or more), so you'll have to decide if it's worth repairing.

It was actually a Wal-Mart clearance model.. it was a nice TV for the price prolly 500 bucks.. but that was 3.5 years ago.. I think we'll prolly go TV shopping today, haha.
